I went into psychology to address what I believe is a growing imbalance of work/life stress and personal guilt in modern day society. I want to help clients struggling with this both individually and as couples or families. Experiences from past careers has given me an appreciation for diverse learning methods and cultural attitudes, as well as how to be flexible and creative in my coaching with clients of all ages. Managing the ups and downs of any chronic condition is the unacknowledged full-time job of millions of people, and yet there is little credit given for it. I am here to be supportive, inventive, encouraging, and sympathetic to clients struggling with the ongoing stress of managing their lives, and help them lead an enjoyable life no matter what they may be handling. I believe that when people connect, lives get better. I have always been an advocate for others’ growth, and enjoy helping people gain insight into themselves and their world. As a marriage and family therapist, I help individuals address elements of their lives and themselves that are interfering with their relationships. As an individual therapist, I focus on unlocking and identifying core motivations and strengths in clients that are unique to them, and which often provide clients with the direction or guidance they are seeking. My psychotherapy practice is tailored to give clients exactly the kind of supportive opportunity they need to focus inward, realign with their personal needs, and heal from stress as they learn to manage it. I have a warm communication style that clients describe as encouraging, analytical, and direct. I use a Cognitive Behavioral approach, with elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy to explore deeper memories, and Solution-Focused principles to create measurable progress between sessions.

My style can best be described as insight and action-oriented therapy. I believe that once an individual has an improved understanding of their inner workings (thoughts, emotions, behaviors) and patterns of behavior, then they can begin to adopt more healthy ways of living. In sessions, I offer empathy, acceptance, guidance, and understanding, while encouraging clients to show up authentically so that they can work towards personal growth and positive change. I'm a therapist with Octave and Evernorth Behavioral Care Group. Octave is a mental health practice providing high-quality care covered by multiple insurances. Evernorth Behavioral Care Group is a behavioral health provider group in-network with Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth. For my availability, please reach out to Octave’s team by emailing or calling.

Carlton Hemphill
Hello and welcome! My name is Carlton Hemphill, a 34-year-old Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois who is also board certified (NCC). I received my Master’s degree from Roosevelt University in Clinical Psychology-Counseling Practice, with a concentration on child and family dynamics. I have been working in the field since 2015 and practicing as an independent clinician in my own private practice since June 2023. My therapeutic approach is grounded in behavioral and cognitive theories, focusing on how your recent experiences, environment, and thought patterns shape your current emotions and behaviors. Together, we’ll explore how these elements influence your present life, helping you make meaningful changes and move forward with confidence. I also integrate existential perspectives to help you explore your purpose, values, and fulfillment. I provide a warm, supportive environment where we focus on what’s happening in your life right now. Through direct, thought-provoking questions and unbiased feedback, I’ll help you gain clarity and make informed decisions. This process is centered on your insights, growth, and goals, and I’ll respect your pace and direction as we work together.

I believe that we can appear fine on the outside while feeling exhausted or unwell on the inside. Often, the ways we learned to survive can keep us stuck in unhealthy habits, painful relationships, or missed opportunities without us even realizing it. But healing is possible. I believe we can transform past pain into something meaningful. You can still reclaim a fuller version of yourself—one that brings strength to your relationships, your family, and your sense of self. Seeking support can be the hardest step, but with the right guidance, the mind and brain have a powerful capacity to heal and be restored. I often work with clients who frequently navigate the tension between family expectations, cultural values, and the demands of living in a different society. Together, we work to challenge internalized beliefs like "I'm not good enough" and build healthier ways of relating to oneself and others. A recurring focus in my practice is supporting individuals who feel stuck in unhealthy or unfulfilling relationships, helping them move toward greater clarity, empowerment, and self-worth. I began my career as a child therapist in schools, where I witnessed firsthand how deeply childhood experiences and trauma can shape a person’s sense of identity and self-worth. That foundation continues to guide my work today. I help clients gently recognize childhood wounds, process them with care, and foster meaningful growth toward a more grounded and authentic self. My approach is both gentle and direct. I meet you where you are, moving at a pace that feels right for you. In our work together, I offer a safe, honest space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported as we begin to untangle complex emotions and reshape the stories you tell yourself. We explore how early experiences—such as family dynamics, attachment patterns, or messages you received about who you were "supposed" to be—may still be influencing how you see yourself today.

Hello, I work with individuals seeking a better understanding of themselves and their relationships and wanting to improve how they manage their emotions and anxiety. I work collaboratively with you on developing self-discovery while providing a nurturing, supportive environment- loosening habituated patterns of avoidance, self-doubt, fear, and self-sabotage. My job is to help your nervous system heal from these enduring burdens, so we can reduce persistent feelings of self-doubt, inadequacy, and dissatisfaction. The beauty of this work is that it emboldens us to be on a continuing process of self-discovery every day. Over time, clients report feeling a deep sense of internal relief which ultimately promotes feelings of validation, acceptance, appreciation, empowerment, purpose, and love. I was inspired to become a therapist by my experience working with adults with developmental disabilities. I found deep fulfillment in making a positive impact with the people in my community and wanted to make that the focus of my life. I offer a warm and kind presence that allows my clients to speak without judgment. My approach is highly focused on the underlying feelings that inform how we navigate life. Utilizing a balance between compassion and direct communication, my aim is to create an atmosphere that is kind and comforting while respecting the work we do and the need for honesty. I believe in the ideas of genuineness, empathetic understanding, and unconditional positive regard for my clients. My goal is to demonstrate acceptance for my clients from a holistic perspective that includes every aspect of who they are. Understanding all of the facets and intersecting identities that make up a person, allows me to support them at my best. I also wish to provide my clients with useful tools that can help them to be their best selves both within a relationship and individually.

The students I work best with are often juggling the pressures of college while trying to manage their mental health. You may be feeling overwhelmed by coursework, struggling with anxiety or depression, adjusting to a new environment, dealing with relationship or family stress, or questioning your confidence and direction. Sometimes it feels like everyone else has it figured out while you’re just trying to get through the day. My goal is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can be yourself. Together, we’ll explore what’s contributing to your stress, build practical coping skills, improve communication, and strengthen your confidence so you can navigate challenges both in and outside the classroom. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, empowering, and tailored to your unique experiences. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to better understand yourself, you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to help you build resilience, create meaningful change, and move toward the life you want.

A major inspiration for me was my five years as a Director of Programs for a Los Angeles nonprofit, where I supported youth and young adults transitioning out of foster care, as well as those recovering from trafficking situations. Through that work, I saw how powerful it is when people feel truly seen, heard, and supported. I was especially drawn to helping young people and families navigate complex emotions and relationships. That experience led me to become a therapist so I could continue supporting children, families, and couples in building stronger connections, healing, and growth. My approach is very client-centered, which means I focus on creating a space where you feel safe, respected, and able to be yourself. I listen closely, reflect back what I’m hearing, and check in often to make sure I’m understanding your experience accurately. Whether I’m working with a child, a couple, or a family, I make sure each person feels included, valued, and supported. I also integrate creativity and flexibility into sessions, because not everyone expresses themselves best through words alone. Working together is collaborative—you are the expert on your life. My role is to support and guide you. With couples and families, that often means helping improve communication, strengthen relationships, and create a deeper understanding of one another. With children, I may incorporate play, art, or creative activities to help them express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable. Trust is built over time through consistency, openness, and respect. I show up authentically, follow through, and create a nonjudgmental space where you can share at your own pace. I also invite feedback so we can adjust our work together in a way that feels most helpful to you. I love incorporating creativity into my own life—I’m always exploring new art activities or creative projects. I often bring that energy into sessions, especially with kids and families, because it can make the process feel more engaging and even a little fun at times.

You want to be a better person than what you grew up with. You want to provide the love and support that always felt conditional to you. Growing up, you learned to believe the other shoe would drop at any moment and you had to be ready. It was only a matter of time. Instead of being made to feel like you were the problem, you wish you could have grown up to trust in yourself, to feel all of the feelings without shame or judgment, to have healthy relationships. You want this, but just because you know in your head that there is a better way doesn't mean you know how to recognize it, trust in it, or believe in your heart that you deserve it. I enjoy providing a compassionate, non-judgmental space for you to come and just be. We'll work together to identify the unhelpful patterns you've learned, to build a sense of safety, and your ability to trust in yourself. We'll build up the compassionate self you wished you got when you were young, and build in skills and supports to lean on along the way. I help adults who feel like they are always on edge, ready for someone to make you the problem and say it's your fault. Here's the truth: You are allowed to be different, to take up space, to feel all the feelings, that doesn't make you 'the problem.' We'll work together to help your brain believe it and keep you safe. Hi, I'm Allyson! I'm a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #136508) and Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #12918) under the supervision of Elizabeth McGinnis, LPCC 8285. I received my Master’s from California Baptist University in Counseling Psychology and my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from Biola University. In my career as a therapist, I’ve worked with children and adults of all ages. From preschool through adulthood, I’ve worked alongside my clients to process through their challenges and create patterns of relating that are most true and helpful for them. Hi there. I see you. If you’re a student of color, first in your family to pursue higher education, or carrying the weight of trauma, expectations, or unspoken struggles…you’re not alone. I specialize in working with Black, first-gen, and BIPOC students who often feel like they have to be everything for everyone, all while trying to hold it together. Maybe you’re navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, or feeling disconnected from your identity. Maybe you’re tired of code-switching, tired of pretending you’re okay, or trying to heal from experiences no one else seems to understand. In this space, you don’t have to explain your culture, your pain, or your strength. I get it, because I’ve lived it, and I’ve helped others through it. My therapy style is warm, honest, and rooted in both cultural awareness and deep respect for your story. We’ll work at your pace to help you feel more grounded, confident, and like you again, not the version of you the world expects. If faith is important to you, I can incorporate that into our work too. And if you’re just trying to figure out who you are and where you belong, that’s okay too. We’ll explore it together. This is a space for your healing, your voice, and your freedom. You don’t have to carry it alone. Healing is a journey, and I’m honored to walk with you.

Dr. Tsung Wai Aw
Dr. Aw's primary interest is the intersection between mental and physical health. Dr. Aw’s philosophy is that one does not exist outside the other. Furthermore, depression and anxiety in patients who are also suffering from medical issues can feel significantly worse, and it is his goal to get patients on a holistic road to recovery. An ideal patient for Dr. Aw understands that it takes a team to get them feeling better, and it is a collaboration between the patients themselves and Dr. Aw.

I became a therapist because of my personal experience with finding hope and healing with the right person, at the right time in my life. It’s very vulnerable to open yourself up to a provider and I strive to always respect that courage by recognizing we work as partners in bringing hope and healing to your life, at your pace. I strive to provide a warm and safe place for my clients to feel they can be transparent without fear of judgement. I then openly let my clients know my perceptions so that they have an opportunity to provide clarification on their individual needs and correct any assumption I may have. I work hard to ensure my clients have a full understanding of what is happening in their treatment so they can feel empowered as an equal partner in the process. I often hear my clients express appreciation from being informed and having the power to determine the direction they want their treatment to go. As someone who works with fostering/rescuing animals, I find so much joy in getting to meet many of my clients pets. It brings a lot of comfort to have my pets near me, and it is comforting to know my clients are supported by their pets.
