I take a client-centered and individualized approach to therapy. Tailoring our work to your needs, goals, and what feels most helpful to you. My therapeutic approach draws primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I particularly value helping clients develop a more flexible relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions, better understand their emotional experiences and relationships, reduce avoidance, and take meaningful steps toward a life that is more aligned with their values. I particularly enjoy working with individuals experiencing anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, relationship and interpersonal concerns, identity exploration, and eating-related concerns. I strive to approach each client with curiosity, compassion, and without judgment, recognizing that meaningful change often involves both accepting where you are and taking intentional steps toward where you want to be.

Welcome to Healing Hearts & Minds, where healing begins with grace, compassion, and purpose. I believe therapy should be a place where you can come exactly as you are—without the pressure to have everything figured out or pretend you're okay. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, or simply feeling overwhelmed, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. I believe people are far more than a diagnosis or the hardest season of their lives. My approach is relational, collaborative, and practical. Together, we'll work to understand not only what brought you to therapy, but also the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that may be keeping you stuck. As trust develops, we'll gently challenge those barriers while building healthy coping skills, confidence, and resilience. My hope is that therapy becomes more than a place to manage symptoms. I want it to be a place where you rediscover your authentic self, learn to trust yourself again, strengthen your relationships, and move forward with confidence and purpose. Whether you're seeking support for a temporary life challenge or a longer healing journey, you'll be met with grace, compassion, and genuine care every step of the way.

Educated and trained at Rutgers, Harvard, Savannah State, and the University of Pennsylvania, Michael Mack started his career over 25 years ago at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, where he focused in Structural Family Therapy (SFT) developed by Salvador Minuchin, a pioneer in child and adolescent therapy. In addition, he has been trained by the Beck Institute and Linehan Institute/Behavioral Tech in evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Through the use of solution-focused techniques, insight-oriented therapies, and motivational interviewing, clients develop the coping skills to shift beliefs, change behaviors, and overcome negative past events. Clients learn new ways to improve their social interactions and personal development to reduce the impact of anxiety, depression, and other issues. Ultimately, it is about getting better and feeling better. It is about taking control of your life, or helping a loved one overcome the pain and suffering of a mental illness. If you have gotten this far, you're halfway there. As Dumbledore stated, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Sometimes we feel stuck. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed. Sometimes we feel bad and we don't know why. My goal is to help you trailblaze through the forest of life with an improved sense of self and sense of direction. To facilitate this process I use a variety of self-assessment tools and provide self-care education. Sessions will involve talk-therapy and may include use of worksheets, journaling, charting, and art-based interventions. I also incorporate the healing power of humor, when appropriate. I will partner with you to help you feel comfortable in your own skin and confident in each step you take towards growth.

I believe that mental health is a journey of piecing together multiple working parts, and I hope to be a part of that process with you. About Me I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving the states of Georgia and Maryland. I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, families, and young adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice). I primarily work with ages 6-25. I also currently hold an academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Social Work. I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a positive, safe, and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you. Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my pets, finding challenging hikes, cooking/baking, going to the beach/finding water, gardening, exploring the city, and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy picking up new creative projects and DIYs! Who I Help & What I Help With Who I Can Help Children (6-12) Teens (13-17) Emerging & Young Adults (18-29) Adult Couples What I Can Help With Relationship issues or losing a relationship Adjusting to and navigating life transitions Improving unhealthy/disruptive habits and behaviors Feeling sad or depressed Trauma and loss Feeling overwhelmed or anxious Feeling alone or disconnected from others Experiencing stress at work, school, or home Conflict resolution Learning to value and love yourself My Approach Types of Therapies It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy a bit nervous and with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you. The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown by research to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include but are not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Person-Centered Therapy Narrative Therapy Culturally Sensitive Therapy Services & Payment At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. You may choose the mode with which you are most comfortable (i.e., video, phone). This is a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. Therefore, please do not include confidential or private information if you choose to email or call. Further and more detailed information will be exchanged through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. I look forward to speaking with you! Types of Sessions Visits with me typically involve the following types of sessions: Intake Session: Assessment & Planning (60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $200) It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. For this reason, the first session serves to help you and me decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. The intake is also an Assessment and Planning phase, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. This phase also allows me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions if you are comfortable with moving forward. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy session. Regular Individual Therapy Session (30-60 minutes, Accepts Insurance, Private Pay Rate: $90-$180) Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together. Please note that 30-minute sessions are private pay only. These sessions may work well for children and adolescents, day-to-day check-ins, more solution-focused sessions, quicker access to therapy, etc. Regular Family Therapy Session With Client (30 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $108, Private Pay Only) When needed, family sessions provide an opportunity to strengthen communication, address relational dynamics, and support your child or adolescent's progress in treatment. These sessions may include parents/guardians, caregivers, and/or siblings depending on the goals we establish together. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Brief Family Therapy Session Without Client (15 minutes; Child & Adolescent Only, $54, Private Pay Only) These brief check-ins offer a dedicated space for parents and caregivers to share observations, ask questions, and stay connected to their child's therapeutic progress without the client present. They are not a replacement for regular family sessions but rather, serve as a lightweight touchpoint between sessions when needed. Please note that all family sessions of any length are private pay only. Couples Therapy Session (60 minutes; $216, Private Pay Only) Couples therapy sessions provide a structured space to address relational concerns, improve communication, and work toward shared goals within the relationship. These sessions are designed to support both partners in understanding relational patterns, navigating conflict more effectively, and building a stronger foundation for daily functioning together. Please note that all couples therapy sessions of any length are private pay only. Payment Options In-Network Insurance & Third-Party Payers I currently accept the following insurance plans in Georgia: Aetna Cigna/Evernorth United Healthcare/UBH/Optum Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans I currently accept the following insurance plans in Maryland: Aetna Cigna/Evernorth United Healthcare/UBH/Optum Medicaid/Carelon Behavioral Health Medicare & Medicare Advantage Plans This means that if you are enrolled in any of these plans (or potentially any of their subsidiaries), your out-of-pocket expense is limited to your deductible and copay/coinsurance. While I can assist in determining what these costs will be, it may be helpful to ask your insurance provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 2. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *I am currently working to become a provider in network with Anthem as well as any applicable subsidiaries under Anthem in the state of Georgia. I am also currently working to become a provider in network with CareFirst as well as any applicable subsidiaries under CareFirst in the state of Maryland. Private Pay & Out-of-Network Reimbursement I also accept private pay, and if you have another insurance provider, you may also have out-of-network benefits. With this option, your insurance benefits may reimburse the majority of the cost of therapy. With both private pay and out-of-network reimbursement, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements later from your insurance provider. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works. It may be helpful to ask your provider the following questions prior to your intake session: 1. Does my plan provide out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health services? 2. What is my deductible and how much is remaining? 3. What percentage of payments for outpatient mental health services does my plan cover after the deductible is met? *Lack of insurance coverage, privacy concerns, flexibility, and quicker access to care are only a few of the reasons why one might choose this option. Cancellation Policy All clients are required to have an active credit/debit card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or inactive insurance, you will be charged in full regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. You may still apply this fee to future appointments. Contact Me Ready to get started? I work with young adults who want to improve their quality of life by building skills to manage anxiety, stabilize their mood, navigate life stressors, and strengthen communication. I provide counseling in Dallas, Georgia, and online therapy across Georgia. It’s not always easy to ask for help, and I recognize the courage it takes to share your personal thoughts with someone new. I create a safe and supportive space where you can talk openly, explore what’s holding you back, and learn tools to shift unhelpful thought patterns toward greater clarity, balance, and peace. Effective 10/18/25 I'm available Saturdays!
