Emotions, transitions, and life challenges can feel overwhelming for many people. My goal is to help you feel more in control, find peace in your day-to-day, and work towards your goals for wellness. I work with adults and teens who are dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or life transitions. Together, we’ll work towards understanding your emotions and behaviors in a supportive, empathetic, nonjudgmental environment. My style is warm, collaborative, strength-based and goal oriented. I focus on a holistic approach to counseling and meeting you where you are at in your process. I take an integrative approach to therapy, combining evidence-based techniques such as CBT and mindfulness practices with psychodynamic insight. I believe that therapy is a journey of self-discovery and growth, so we’ll work together to identify the causes of your challenges, develop coping strategies, and create lasting change. Therapy is a partnership, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and heard. In our work together, I’ll provide a space where you can speak freely without judgment, and I’ll support you as you explore your feelings, thoughts, experiences, and behaviors. Everyone has the potential for growth and healing, and I’m here to help guide that process.

I'm passionate about working with college students who are finding life to be overwhelming and exhausting. Maybe you're heartbroken over loss, burdened with guilt, feeling you'll never be good enough, are scared, or at wits' end. Or maybe something happened to you, and it sticks with you giving you no rest. When we feel this way, we tend to isolate, berate ourselves, and spiral in our thinking or distract ourselves from these debilitating feelings. You're not alone. These feelings and responses are common, and there are evidence-based treatments to help you make sense of your concerns, take good care of yourself, and take your next steps. My main approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) while also building a warm, therapeutic relationship. I'm also trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. That said, therapy is collaborative. You are the expert on yourself, and I will work with you to find the approach that best suits you. My goal is to help you not only feel better but to grow in ways that make a healthier life both possible and sustainable. Many people feel hesitant about starting therapy. Growth can be a challenging road—I hope to meet you on that road, and help with your journey.
Has depression stopped you in your tracks? Has a sense of emptiness settled over you? Perhaps you feel like nothing in life is worth the effort anymore. Fortunately, psychotherapy has the answers that you are looking for. With one-to-one sessions with a therapist like myself trained in treating depression, anxiety, maternal mental health concerns, and PTSD, you can learn skills to lessen depression, reduce anxiety, support postpartum mental health, heal from trauma, and find a positive way forward. I am here to offer you help through life's most difficult transitions. Talking to someone who understands is the first step in lifting you out of shame and into empowerment, so you can feel like yourself again. Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with young adults facing issues related to anxiety, depression, relationships, family, identity and stress. Right now, I offer telehealth therapy for folks in Maine and Massachusetts. I help my clients by creating a collaborative and affirming space to gain skills, process experiences, and grow. When we find ways to adapt to overwhelming emotions, process our most unpleasant feelings and offer understanding and compassion to all the messy parts of ourselves, we can begin to navigate life's challenges effectively with confidence and joy. In our first few sessions, you can expect increased self awareness which can help uncover your true desires and allow you to take actions in your life that align with your deepest held values. I am passionate about this work because I genuinely believe everyone deserves to live the life they want to live.

I am a warm, straightforward therapist focused on providing effective treatment. I work to connect genuinely with each of my patients because I believe the first component of effective treatment is the formation of a trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. With this relationship as the foundation, we can then collaboratively determine your goals and take measurable steps to achieving the change you want in your life. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, sexual and gender identity, suicidality, emotion regulation, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship problems, family issues, academic and occupational stress, and life transitions. I specialize in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These approaches seek to provide practical skills to manage the emotions and thoughts that are interfering with our lives. I have also trained in trauma based and exposure protocols. In addition, I have specific training in supporting those who identify as gender non-conforming and offer both assessment and supportive counseling to individuals and families. I appreciate the courage it takes to talk with a therapist. Therapy is a very active process, with both the client and the therapist putting in considerable effort, and I will work with you to create the treatment environment that best meets your individual needs.

I earned my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I have worked in different settings including university/community counseling centers, dual diagnosis treatment centers, and psychiatric hospitals (Austen Riggs Center). I work from a psychoanalytic orientation. This approach emphasizes the importance of both past and present experiences, relationships, emotions, patterns of being, and the unconscious. While it is natural to want to move away from suffering, it is when we give it a voice that healing can begin. Though genetics can play a role in the development of psychiatric problems; symptoms are some of the ways our psyche and body deal with pain that has not been understood, contextualized, and articulated. My goal as a psychoanalytic therapist is to help my patients notice how their symptoms are not accidental experiences to dodge, but rather meaningful communications to explore. Only through this inquiry can patients tap into interpersonal and intrapersonal as well as conscious and unconscious phenomena that have shaped their life and continue to contribute to their suffering.

At Advance Psychotherapy Practice, we are dedicated to providing specialized mental healthcare to individuals, couples, and families. We understand that every individual is unique, and therefore, we have a diverse team of specialized therapists who work collaboratively to provide the best treatment possible. We believe that with the help of our therapists' expertise and experience, clients can achieve optimal mental health and lead fulfilling lives.
My Approach & Values Hope and the belief that it’s possible to recover are the foundation of the work I do. You deserve and can expect a full recovery. Keep in mind that medications are not the only modality available to treat mental illness. Many don’t experience full remission of symptoms with the available psychopharmacological treatment alone. However, there is empirical data that shows the efficacy of augmenting medication with psychotherapy and lifestyle changes. Simple changes aid individuals in regaining a meaningful life, even when recovery stalls. The goal is to gain control of your life back with emphasis on managing symptoms and building resilience. Some thoughts to keep in mind include the questions listed below. - How can we move forward? - What new goals could be set? - How can we get your new life back on track? - Can we work together to develop your support system? - What skills can you learn to cope with periods of crisis?

Samantha Leary is a licensed mental health counselor and masters level art therapist. Samantha's approach is through a trauma focused lens and specializes in anxiety, depression, life transitions, and men's mental health. She has worked in various behavioral health settings and has a wide range of skills and knowledge to help clients achieve their goals.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, body image issues, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder & college adjustment/ academic stress. My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I find that people often assume that they “should” know how to approach therapy. In reality, the process may not be quite so simple and may feel confusing. Thus, I frequently have conversations with my clients about how to use sessions and ongoing dialogues about our work together.
I am a psychotherapist with over 18 years of experience in clinical practice. I am an active clinician, who will engage you on a compassionate level through attentive and thoughtful listening. I acknowledge and appreciate your strengths and resilience when facing challenging circumstances in your life. Fundamentally, my goal is to help empower you by bolstering your internal resources to help you move towards a more fulfilling life. My therapeutic style is a mix of cognitive behavioral, relational, and mindfulness-based interventions. I can offer you an approach that is individually tailored to your unique goals, needs, strengths and challenges. I feel privileged that this is my life's work, and I appreciate your consideration to allow me to accompany you on your healing journey.
