Therapists for college students near Harvard University
I have worked with people of all backgrounds but I generally work with women and the LGBT community. I work with clients on self-esteem, body positivity, anxiety management, trauma symptoms, and relational issues. As a human and a provider, I am feminist, anti-racist, fat positive, sex positive, pro-science, pro-vaccine, and pro-LGBT. My approach is varied depending on the individual's history with treatment. For people new to therapy, it may be helpful to utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT involves looking at thoughts patterns and behaviors that may be creating obstacles in your life and setting up appropriate coping skills to address those issues. For people who come to therapy for the purpose of processing trauma, a trauma-informed, relational approach is necessary. For people who are looking to gain understanding about how their past intersects with their present behaviors, insight oriented therapy would be the best approach. I am not a "Listen and Nod" therapist. I will actively listen, provide you with feedback and analysis, and be open with you about your diagnosis, prognosis, and any treatments indicated. With full transparency, I say that I am not a validation-only therapist. Some folks want a therapist who will listen and validate without providing feedback or analysis. That is not my style. I will, however, work with you to figure out exactly how you can benefit from therapy.
I specialize in working with anxiety disorders, self-esteem, and personality disorders; I also have the unique niche of working researchers/academics as well as those who have lived abroad. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a researcher at Harvard Medical School, University of Pennsylvania, and as a Fulbright scholar in Budapest, Hungary, studying psychotherapeutic interventions for anxiety disorders and personality disorders. My work has resulted in 20+ publications in research journals and popular science magazines. Having lived in Europe for several years, I deeply understand bi-cultural and cross-cultural challenges. My background as an academic researcher also has shaped my approach, allowing me to connect with and support clients from diverse backgrounds in a meaningful way! I offer a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where clients can feel truly heard and understood. Whether you're seeking clarity on what drives you, or navigating the everyday challenges that life brings, my goal is to support you in a way that feels safe and validating. Life can be tough, and our minds often create barriers that make it hard to move forward. Through therapy, my aim is to help you work through the complexities of being human - helping you better understand yourself and find ways to cope with the unique challenges of living in today’s world. I specialize in anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, depression, and self-esteem, including couples therapy. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, EMDR, and other eclectic, related modalities and also work with Schema therapy.
As a Harvard-trained licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years experience, I often see clients who struggle with managing stress and anxiety, have unsatisfying family and personal relationships, experience health problems or grief and loss, or have trouble focusing in school and work. Change involves both insight and actual changes in one's behavior. My goal is to create a time and place with you where we can work safely to explore the origins of the problems and then make improvements. My approach is warm, supportive, and actively focused on bringing about lasting change. I provide therapy via telehealth. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=46833"></script>
It can be hard to know when to call a therapist. Have you found yourself thinking the below thoughts? -There is something wrong with me -I don't understand the way I am feeling -No one understands me -This isn't supposed to be the way my college experience is -I just can't handle these feelings of sadness/stress/anxiety If so, it sounds like you could benefit from talking to a therapist. Life is hard and therapy can be an effective tool to help navigate life's difficulties. As your therapist, I will sit with you and listen as you share your struggles and we will make sense of things. Together, we can figure out how you are unintentionally "getting in your own way" and also recognize the ways you are helping yourself thrive (but perhaps hadn't even realized it!). I'll teach you about your emotions, the mind-body connection and the relationship between thoughts-feelings-behaviors. This information will help you learn new and better ways to help yourself when you are feeling overwhelmed with your emotions and life challenges. Sounds like this could be helpful? Send me an email, we can schedule a 15 min phone call where I can answer your questions and we can get started.

I'm a MA licensed mental health counselor providing telehealth therapy. I've worked with teens, college students, and young adults in a multitude of capacities throughout my career. I've also taught as a professor at the college level, so I'm familiar with both sides of the classroom as teacher and student. My role is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship that can help encourage you to see things in a different light, respond to situations in a new way, and navigate life’s challenges. Hi! Welcome to my practice. My name is Wendy Emory, LICSW. You are welcome to look at my profile on Psychology Today. Many clients come to me as they're feeling stuck and something isn't working for them, or alternatively, they're experiencing anxiety and overwhelm, perhaps related to transitions or trauma. Either way, I work to help people access what already exists within them, and help them feel better. I'm certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which is a body based oriented talk therapy used to help people heal from trauma and other relational injuries.
Are you the parent of a teen or a young adult who is struggling with symptoms of anxiety or depression? Maybe you’re a survivor of trauma and are ready to start seeking therapeutic support to start processing your experience? Perhaps your life has become overwhelming and you need someone to talk to? Or maybe you’re struggling with your relationships with others or your relationship with yourself? You are not alone and things can get better. Together we will work on replacing the behaviors and thoughts that are not serving you with positive strategies that can lead to a happier, healthier and more productive life. I will provide a supportive, nonjudgemental and caring space that will encourage self-awareness, resiliency building, and vulnerability while we work together to take on each challenge. I am a strengths-based, client centered therapist who works with numerous therapy modalities in order to find the best fit for you. Just as each person is unique, my belief is that therapy should be the same, with each session being tailored to your individual needs. I take a collaborative approach to therapy because it is important that you have a voice.
If you’ve been feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or just not like yourself lately, you’re not alone. Maybe you’re the one who always holds it together for everyone else, but inside, you're running on empty. Maybe you’re constantly second-guessing yourself or struggling to say no, even when you're burned out. Or maybe you're in the middle of a big life change and everything feels uncertain or heavier than you expected. You may be wanting to better understand yourself, set boundaries, and start living in a way that actually feels good-not just "good enough." My approach is trauma-informed, compassion-focused, and grounded in somatic and IFS principles. That means we’ll not only talk about what’s going on, but also gently tune into what your body, emotions, and inner parts are holding. I believe that healing happens when we feel safe and connected enough to really listen to ourselves with our whole being. You can expect a space where you don’t have to perform or minimize the parts of you that have felt too much, messy, or confusing. This work is about coming home to yourself. You don’t have to do it alone. If this resonates, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Reach out when you’re ready—we’ll take it from there, together.
Are you seeking to understand yourself better? Are you looking to make sense of your relationship dynamics? Do you wish things were better, but you don't know how to get there? You CAN feel empowered by an expanding of your understanding, gathering insight, and educating the choices you make in how you decide to live your life. I work with couples, and adults to help make sense of obstacles, understand how relationship histories effect life today, and become more comfortable with themselves. This is done in an atmosphere where you are accepted for who you are. We can discuss your goals. Many people feel uncomfortable considering therapy as an option for themselves. It can be difficult asking for help, believing that asking for help means we are inadequate in some way. In a do-it-yourself culture, reaching out to others can cause us to feel like we are less than, but trying to meet our own needs is actually a strength. My clients often report that they have gained more insight into their lives, that they feel more at home within themselves and more capable of handling life's difficulties as they inevitably arise. Couples leave my office feeling like they understand themselves and their partner more clearly, and report greater relationship satisfaction.
