Hillary believes that the foundation of counseling is a therapeutic relationship that offers a safe and comfortable environment. Sharing your story while experiencing acceptance helps to drive the therapeutic process and lay the foundation for real healing and growth. She believes counseling can be a place to explore your patterns, come to understand factors that contributed to your development, and find a balance between accepting yourself and changing patterns that are no longer serving you. Through this exploration and finding the right therapeutic tools, Hillary believes that all people have the ability to understand themselves better, find acceptance, and learn to thrive in daily life. Hillary works for Mindful Counseling GR at the Standale location. She is an alum of both Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University. Hillary works with adolescents and adults. She specializes in working with individuals with anxiety, trauma, depression, and life transition concerns. Hillary also has experience with family of origin work and exploring relational patterns within the family unit. Hillary will work with you to identify strengths within yourself, increase self-awareness, and find the right tools for managing life symptoms and stressors before they arise.
I am a mature, older woman with a great deal of professional and life experience that I apply in my practice. I am an empathic, respectful, and careful listener. I work with a broad range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, life transitions, attachment, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, women’s issues, LGBTQ+ challenges, and relationships. I also have a special interest in neurodivergence, including both high achievers and individuals with ADHD. Because of my proximity to MSU, I have the pleasure of working with many college students, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I work eclectically, carefully tailoring my practice to each of my clients, utilizing approaches to therapy that are trauma-informed, integrative, and experiential. I am trained in many different modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I work primarily with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression and diminished self-esteem. These issues manifest in many different ways and may include an inability to make decisions, difficulty maintaining relationships, low confidence, discomfort in social settings, exhaustion, fears that may seem irrational and poor view of self. Through the use of Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, my focus involves supporting clients in self-esteem development, anxiety reduction, mood improvement and personal growth. It is important to me that my clients truly feel heard and I strive to instill strength in every session. If you are ready to take control of your life, move past fear and doubt and really SOAR, schedule an appointment today. I am excited to join you in this journey of healing and self discovery!

Hey, I’m so glad you’re here! Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re driven and expected to hold it all together. I work with holistic-minded adults, including entrepreneurs, professionals, athletes, neurodivergent individuals, transgendered individuals, and those with chronic illness or invisible disabilities, exploring identity, creativity, or burnout. I’m very laid back; come as you are. Curse, wear pajamas, lay in bed, be human. This is a space where you don’t have to perform, just show up. Only rule: please don’t drive during sessions or do anything that could harm yourself or others.
