Adjusting to a challenging academic and social environment is an exciting and often daunting prospect , drawing upon one's resilience and creative faculties. I especially enjoy working with energetic and open minded clients just setting out on life's journey. My job is simply to see your world through your eyes to the best of my ability and together discover your unique solutions to challenges in this most pivotal period of life. I subscribe to an eclectic mix of theoretical styles such as Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as EMDR to address trauma memories and development of resources to set your path to success in whatever direction you value. A lot of the students I work with are used to being the “put together” one. The responsible one. The one who pushes through. But behind the scenes, they’re exhausted. Many are dealing with complicated relationships with food, body image, or perfectionism while also navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, or chronic illness. From the outside it might look like they’re managing fine, but internally it can feel like a constant battle with their own mind or body. A lot of my clients are thoughtful and self-aware, but tired of feeling stuck in the same patterns or feeling like they’re constantly fighting themselves. In therapy with me, the goal isn’t to shame or rush you into change. Instead, we slow things down and get curious about what your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are actually trying to communicate. From there, we work on building coping tools, creating more flexibility in patterns that feel rigid or overwhelming, and rebuilding trust with your body. You don’t have to come in with everything figured out. Many of my clients start therapy feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or even skeptical — and that’s completely okay. Therapy is just a space where you can show up honestly and start making sense of things at your own pace.
My name is Rachael, and I would be honored to be a part of your journey. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker striving to provide a warm, caring, and down to earth atmosphere where clients feel supported, understood, and free to be themselves. I understand that beginning therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming or uncomfortable, but I believe therapy is a collaborative process and I value working alongside clients at a pace that feels comfortable and empowering. I truly enjoy helping people set goals, solve problems and create positive change in their lives; I look forward to working with you.
Throughout my life, I have found people to be fascinating as each person has unique stories, values, and beliefs that guide their life. This curiosity of people combined with the belief that each person has intrinsic value and worth led me to the field of counseling. Through using collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches, I hope to facilitate a healing space where clients can learn how to care for themselves holistically, pursue personal goals, and address mental health concerns, all while feeling accepted for who they are as a person. I completed my clinical internship experience at Appalachian State University’s counseling center during 2023 - 2024 academic year. During this time I developed skills for working with clients facing life transitions, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, spiritual/ religious concerns, emotional dysregulation, interpersonal relationship concerns, low self-confidence, grief and academic distress. My main theoretical approach is person-centered therapy while also using creative, culturally-aware and trauma-informed methods. I have a passion for working with clients who are working through anxiety, depression, academic stress, neurodivergence and life-transitions. Please reach out to set up an appointment today!
I love working with adults (age 18 and up) on anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, and body image issues. I enjoy educating clients about attachment theory and helping people learn how to cope when their attachment styles are triggered. I have been a therapist since 2017 and bring a lot of experience to my practice. I am very warm and funny, but can be direct when it is appropriate. My goal is to help clients learn in session, so I do provide feedback. I like teaching clients about boundaries and how to effectively communicate them.
Do you often find yourself comparing yourself to those around you, wondering how they all seem to have it all figured out while you are just trying to hold it together? You are stressed, on edge, and wondering if anything will ever change. You may find yourself struggling to enjoy things in life, maybe even pulling back from friends and family because they may not understand. You are ready to make a change, to find balance, to be you – but you have no idea where to begin. Imagine what it would be like to feel like you aren’t just trying to make it through the day, but are actively participating in your life. You could learn to quiet your self-doubt and create space for self-compassion and curiosity. You could begin to understand your needs and how to respond, learning to focus your energy on the things that matter to you. My approach begins with meeting you where you are and developing a genuine and trusting relationship. Together, we will work to find tools that help you better manage your daily stressors so that you can feel safe in exploring, understanding, healing, and growing. This positive therapeutic experience drove her decision to go into the counseling field and sparked her passion to help those who find themselves in with similar negative thought patterns.
