Are you struggling with intimacy in your life? Are you going through stressful medical treatments, chronic pain, or infertility? Have you or your spouse recently had a baby or adopted? A whole lot of life seems to revolve around families--with a lot of emphasis on getting married and getting pregnant. Sexual difficulties, fertility challenges, fears about pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum anxiety and depression all hang together. Emotions, beliefs, religious traditions, culture, and relationships can all get tangled up around having sex. Which is why you deserve the best combination of credentials and experience. But when you're having trouble finding a partner, or getting pregnant, or when having a baby turns out to be hugely stressful it can feel ever so lonely and isolating. Please know that you don't have to go this alone. My patients call me DrSara and I've been helping people navigate sexual and reproductive health issues for over 30 years.
Reaching out and asking for help can sometimes be a daunting task, & if you have found yourself ready to make that first phone call, you have done the hardest part. The stressors of life, coupled with issues we may have faced in the past, or are currently facing today may hinder us on the road to a happy and fulfilled life. The issues we face can have an impact on all facets of our lives, from our interpersonal relationships, our work, our spirituality, and overall mental and physical wellbeing. I am experienced and skilled at working with adults, couples, and teens that are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional disturbance, and parenting and family conflict. I am currently in a new office space in Greenville, NC. I am taking in person and virtual clients. My approach to therapy is laid back, as I provide a holistic approach to therapy, as I take the whole person, with their unique background, culture, life experiences, & personality in to consideration. I hope you'll feel empowered & heard throughout your time with me as we work together to create the positive change in your life that you may be seeking.
I work with individuals dealing with life transitions, medical related issues, mood and affective disorders, and marriage, parenting or family issues. I also have my Yoga Teacher Training Certification as well as completing my certifications in Maternal Mental Health and ADHD. My approach to counseling places an emphasis on the relationship between the client and counselor and the promotion of growth. When needed, I use a variety of structured and non-structured interventions to best meet the needs of the client. I utilize empirically supported techniques, including cognitive and behavioral interventions, that focus on the ways in which individuals think about and respond to events. These interventions allow clients to restructure their thinking, process events and modify behaviors in more adaptive ways. I use a narrative and solution focused approach to collaboratively work with clients to identify successful past solutions to problems and how these strengths can be implemented in future situations. Small changes in the way clients view themselves and their own abilities to solve problems will encourage solution-oriented patterns to reach future goals.

Tara has an energetic laugh that puts clients at ease and enjoys playfully incorporating her love of sarcasm into her work with her clients. She has been known to lovingly call people out on their “bologna” when she hears it and is a great accountability partner. Tara is also incredibly empathetic and provides a warm and safe environment and a quiet listening ear when the situation calls for it. Noticing and reading nonverbal communication and body language is a skill Tara possesses in spades so she often learns a lot even from things that go unsaid. Tara is judgement free and she encourages you to be genuine and authentic. Tara is passionate about working with young adults who are struggling with life transitions or adjustments and those who experience anxiety due to "trying to do it all" and trying to be "everything for everyone". She knows and understands the pressures that our society puts on young adults and aims to help them regain control of the chaos and find some peace. Tara also loves guiding clients towards healing relationships and teaching more effective communication- whether it be with your spouse, a family member, or a co-worker/boss. Through their work together, Tara and her clients work to find tools and skills to improve the areas a client can change and ultimately work towards self-acceptance.
