One of the main focus areas of my practice is working with emerging adults in their late teens, 20's and 30's and helping them navigate the often challenging transition from adolescence to adulthood. This can include social anxiety, perfectionism, challenges focusing, big decision making, family relationships, dating and more. I offer a no-pressure, free video call consultation to see if we're a good fit. Please feel free to reach out.

Life is wonderful and really hard at the same time. Sometimes, our struggles take over and interfere with our ability to appreciate the things we love and care about. When this happens, it can turn into developing unhealthy ways of coping and a cycle of suffering. My goal is to help you learn how to reduce suffering and to develop healthier ways of coping. My approach is behavioral; we will work together towards specific goals in a proactive manner. Clients describe me as gentle, humorous, understanding, and change-oriented. I have extensive experience treating eating disorders and anxiety disorders. I practice using an evidence-based treatment model called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) model, which utilizes mindfulness, cognitive interventions, exposure techniques, and movement towards goals and values. I can also help you if you are struggling with life transitions, relationship problems, or a sense of feeling stuck in your life. I firmly believe that most people would benefit from therapy.

The fact that you are here, tells me that you want to work on yourself. You want to see your truth, become stronger, and earn the ability to become self-reliant. Congratulations on taking these steps. You are one step closer to beginning your journey. I have been in the helping profession since 1987. My objective is to help people create positive changes in their lives. I provide a relaxed atmosphere, use modern clinical concepts, and work collaboratively with each individual, couple, or group. I encourage my clients to hone in on their strengths for their personal growth and transformation in order to bring in more love and satisfaction into their lives. My integrative and wholesome approach: I am also a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT), Certified Fitness Instructor, Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), and a PAIRS-certified instructor (helping couples who are struggling with their relationships). With all of that, we would be working collaboratively using a wholesome approach. What this mean is, I integrate many of the well-known evidenced based practice modalities and theories, EMDR, as well as wellness and yoga principles (e.g. breathing, mindfulness, focus attention, awareness, etc.) within the framework of integrative social work and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

I am excited that you are here and pursuing or continuing your journey with therapy. As a therapist, I passionately believe in creating space for people and their stories. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, childhood and relational trauma, identity issues, job stress, relationship issues, and life transitions. I have worked with with teenagers and adults, as well as first-generation immigrants, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ folks. As a South Asian woman who is a first generation immigrant, I value exploring with clients how their identity and culture shapes their experience. In my work with clients I utilize a trauma informed lens as well as a holistic approach, focusing on the mind body connection and how our mental health and physical health are intertwined. I utilize various modalities in my work, primarily psychodynamic but also aspects of DBT, CBT, ACT and mindfulness techniques. I am a warm, compassionate therapist who strives to create a non-judgmental, safe space where clients can explore their past, better understand themselves, navigate life challenges and work towards well-being and self acceptance. In our first session, I look forward to hearing about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our time together. I tailor my sessions to each individual and believe in working collaboratively to meet your needs.

I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.

Often, we can get stuck in our daily grind of rise, rinse, repeat, daydreaming about what could be different, and yet feel paralyzed by uncertainty. “Feel the fear and do it anyway” might fall flat because how does one get to the point where they can identify what they are feeling is fear and trust in themselves and others to hold space for them along that journey? In my therapeutic practice, I offer a compassionate, culturally sensitive, and judgment-free space informed by humor, creativity, and collaboration. My goal is to support those who may be experiencing concerns including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and burnout. With a special focus on trauma-informed care and disordered eating, I provide a secure and comfortable environment where clients can explore and heal from past and present challenges. By blending person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic techniques, we will craft a personalized strategy to address what is holding you back from reaching your authentic self.

At McGarril Mental Health Counseling, we believe that therapy works best when it's honest, well-informed, and deeply human. We founded this practice because we saw too many people struggling to find therapists who were both clinically excellent and genuinely present. Too often, mental health care feels either coldly clinical or lacks the evidence-based foundation that creates lasting change. We work with clients 18 and over, dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship issues, grief, eating disorders, and much more. We use EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, and CBT approaches. We're committed to offering something different: relational and trauma-informed therapy that combines rigorous training with authentic connection. We show up fully—bringing our expertise, our continued learning, and our humanity to every session.

College can be an incredible time of growth—but it can also be overwhelming. Between managing academics, friendships, identity shifts, and planning for your future, it’s normal to feel stretched thin, anxious, or unsure of yourself. Therapy can be a steady place to land—a space where you can process what’s coming up, sort through decisions, and feel more like yourself again. Whether you're navigating a recent breakup, feeling disconnected or burnt out, or just needing someone to talk to who gets it—you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. I work with college students just like you to help build confidence, increase self-awareness, and support your mental, emotional, and relational health in meaningful, real-life ways. Our work is collaborative, judgment-free, and always tailored to who you are and what you need most. If your parent or caregiver is supporting you financially through therapy, that's something we can absolutely talk about—together, we’ll make sure this feels like a valuable, empowering experience for you, and a meaningful investment in your wellbeing. Your life is happening now. Let’s help you feel more stable, supported, and ready to thrive in it. Some days you’ve got it together. Other days, it feels like everything’s falling apart—classes, friendships, dating, or just trying to keep up. If stress, anxiety, or feeling down is making it tough to focus, connect with people, or feel like yourself, you’re not the only one. Therapy gives you space to talk it out—no pressure, no judgment—so you can figure out what’s really going on and start feeling more grounded and confident. I bring warmth, creativity, and a sense of humor into the room, because therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. If you’re ready to feel a little lighter—and a lot less alone—let’s get started.
