I have over 14 years of clinical experience. I have worked with an array of clients over the years which include focuses in anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and crisis stabilization. My goal is to create a safe space for my clients on their journey to personal growth and healing. I believe that everyone's story is unique to them and will develop a personalized approach for each client using evidence based treatment. I want clients who are feeling stuck to be able to have a place to process what they are going through and share helpful tools with them along the way. I want my clients to be able to have an increased insight in to their emotions and behaviors. I want to help my clients develop a better understanding of what their needs are and how to have those needs be met.
My approach is to start where you are. I want to hear your story and your journey. We will explore your concerns and decide together about possible next steps and solutions. I have over 20 years of non-profit social service work, particularly during the peak of the AIDS epidemic. I learned so much about perseverance, courage, and grief through my experience. I look forward to supporting you towards finding the same healing and discovering just how strong you really are. I am a graduate of the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and a proud member of Gen X. I have extensive expertise with LGBTQIA+ young adults, grief and grieving, depression, and anxiety. I am a native New Yorker, a married lesbian in New York City, and a parent to two cranky cats. I am committed to a safe, welcoming space, and my goal is to assist you on the journey towards healing.
I have done psychotherapy with graduate students, especially around relationship, bereavement (particularly early parental loss), anxiety and fertility issues for over twenty years. I believe that most emotional pain stems from both difficult life circumstances and how we perceive those events. I work in an open, warm and empathically challenging way to help people better explore, understand and wrestle with the issues that are keeping them from finding more peace, joy, freedom and fulfillment.
I work with clients who have experienced trauma, are navigating difficult family and relationship dynamics, or are looking to better manage their anxiety, depression, or chronic stress. I have experience working with diverse client populations and the LGBTQIA+ community. We will work together to establish a treatment plan that fits your needs, and pursue it in a collaborative environment where you feel heard, supported, and affirmed.
As a therapist I focus on developing a greater sense of awareness and presence. I believe that we all want to be understood and accepted at a deep level. I work in collaborative way and strive to create a safe, accepting and caring environment that I hope is also challenging and insightful to my clients. committed to resolving unhealthy thinking, perceptions, and behaviors. At Kind Mind Psychological Services, our team is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges with clarity, resilience, and confidence. We work collaboratively with you to better understand your experiences, guiding you through the process of healing from difficult emotions, past experiences, and periods of transition. Our mission is to empower you to build meaningful, lasting change by developing practical skills, healthier perspectives, and a deeper understanding of yourself. Grounded in both clinical expertise and strong organizational leadership, our practice is designed to ensure that compassionate care and operational excellence work hand in hand to support your growth. Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive and behavioral therapies, to create structured, personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique needs. Drawing from integrative modalities such as relational, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and existential therapies, we help clients identify and dismantle unhelpful patterns—whether they stem from anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship challenges—and replace them with more adaptive ways of thinking, feeling, and living. We believe that every individual possesses the internal capacity for transformation, and our role is to help you access and strengthen those resources.
I specialize in relationship challenges and life transitions, supporting you through breakups, new chapters, and recurring patterns in your relationships. Therapy is a genuine partnership. Using CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based tools, I offer warmth, curiosity, and practical support to help you build insight, resilience, and a clearer sense of self—so your relationships and the life you’re creating feel more aligned with who you are.
I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I will be getting credentialed with additional insurances and accepting private pay-please feel free to check back or reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.
I truly believe in the healing that results from having a trusting and nurturing space to explore insights, desires, strengths, and challenges. I am LGBTQIA+ and non-monogamy affirming, and have experience in helping people through the coming out process. I also help people who are dealing with life transitions, anxiety, depression, and processing trauma. During sessions, I use an approach called Internal Family Systems (IFS), which will help you understand symptoms and process trauma at a pace that feels right for you. Through this lens, I will help you connect with your inner wisdom, self-compassion, and clarity. I will also help you develop a felt sense of how emotions show up in your body, and how you can use this connection towards symptom relief. The search for a therapist can be stressful and tiring, but I encourage you to stay connected to yourself as you get a sense of who might be a good fit - even if it takes a few tries! If my profile resonates with you, please feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute video consultation. Looking forward to connecting!

Hi & welcome. My college years were a time of great learning and friendship, and also, of significant loss. This led to my own passion of supporting young adults facing challenges and grief during this important life stage. I have extensive experience working with grieving individuals - children, teens, college students, and adults - including after incidents of mass trauma. My practice (CT/NY) also provides support to those struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family and relationship difficulties, academic and career challenges, self-doubt, and stressors due to caregiving. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and results-oriented and incorporates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I also value the role of creative expression and appreciate how art, play, and narrative therapies impact healing. I value each client as unique and resilient. I offer compassion, warmth, and humor as we collaborate to work towards building on your strengths, increasing your coping skills, and creating the changes you hope to see. We're a team and we got this!
College can feel like a constant balancing act between expectations, relationships, and the pressure to have it all figured out. I specialize in working with high-achieving individuals who look successful on the outside but privately struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt. Many of my clients are insightful and self-aware–they know why they feel the way they do, but that insight alone hasn’t been enough to shift how they feel. My approach focuses on helping you reconnect with your emotional experiences as valuable sources of information, not something to fix or avoid. Together, we’ll explore what’s beneath the overthinking so you can feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally resilient. Clients describe me as warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I create a space where you can feel both deeply supported and gently challenged. If this resonates, I’d love to connect for a free consultation.
Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you're always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don't always understand your reactions. Virtual therapy can help. Let's work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish!
We specialize in working with survivors of sexual violence, both from childhood and adulthood. Our services are fully virtual, and we offer both individual and group therapy. Sessions with me are relaxed, productive, and quite often include some laughter mixed in! Clients can feel comfortable sharing as much, or as little, of their stories as they wish. Having a history of sexual violence can have a tremendous effect on our lives, consciously and unconsciously, impacting current relationships, our sense-of-self, and the way we connect with others. Our all-women team of therapists help clients build coping skills, reduce PTSD symptoms, and feel happier and safer as they move through the world. We operate from a feminist perspective and utilize trauma-informed approaches to foster resiliency and empower women to achieve all that they are capable of.
College can feel overwhelming—you may be juggling classes, relationships, family expectations, and major life decisions all at once. You deserve support that helps you feel grounded, focused, and able to grow during this time. I take a strengths-based approach, recognizing the resilience and determination you already bring. As a parent who completed my degree while working full-time, I understand firsthand the challenges of balancing multiple roles. That experience shapes how I help students build boundaries, stay focused, and create sustainable strategies for success. I work best with students who want more than a space to vent. Together, we focus on practical tools, clearer direction, and meaningful change you can apply in daily life. I especially enjoy supporting working parents, adult learners, and first-generation college students navigating anxiety, cultural or family pressures, identity concerns, and relationship stress. As a bilingual (English/Spanish) LCSW with over 10 years of experience, I provide a supportive, structured space to help you feel more confident, connected, and empowered in college and beyond.
Hi! I am Dr. Monica Johnson. If you’re reading this, it means you are taking your mental and emotional health seriously and researching someone who will be a good fit for your journey. This is exciting! Let me tell you more about me to help you with your decision making process. I am a Licensed Psychologist in NYC, but some people think of me as a problem solving pro, empowerment guru, and self-compassion guide! I partner with my patients to find pathways to a better life. I work best with people who are tired of being stuck and ready to make changes. I can’t change you. Only you can do that, but I’m super excited to be your side kick on the journey and help you highlight roads to success. One of the most important things to know about me is that I am NOT a smile and nod type of therapist. I get down in the trenches with you. I’m down to earth and real with you through this process which means I will call you out on your BS and help you figure out what to do with it. We will work hard and laugh a lot. For the record, there is nothing off limits or shameful in therapy. I’ve seen it all and heard it all. If you need to talk about sex, money, medical issues, or “that one time in Amsterdam,” don’t hesitate! I work with people of all backgrounds (race, gender, sexuality, religion, alternative relationships) and you should expect that I will affirm your identity while helping you to develop a fuller self concept. My job is to help you tap into strengths you already possess (we all have them even if we can’t see them yet) and create new ones! If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, feel constantly overwhelmed by your emotions, past traumas, poor relationships, low self esteem, or just deciding what the next step is in your career/life, I can help.
