Many of my clients come to me with emotional wounds. They often felt invisible, rejected, devalued, or deeply hurt by others. They learned to adapt to the unsupportive environment by judging themselves, tensing up, trying to control everything, disconnecting from themselves, numbing their feelings, not trusting others, hiding, or trying to please everyone. As time goes by, these strategies stop working and become symptoms we label as depression, anxiety, disordered eating, substance use, PTSD, self-harm, etc. I work with clients to break free from the past and live life in the way they want. I offer a safe space where clients feel seen, accepted and empowered. I collaborate with clients to set goals and identify/build on their strengths. I use body-based therapies (EMDR, SP, Mindfulness, etc) to help clients resolve past trauma. I incorporate ACT and DBT to help clients manage stressors more effectively and live more meaningful/fulfilling lives. As a BIPOC psychologist and bilingual immigrant, I have extensive experience serving clients with marginalized identities. I show curiosity and respect to client’s lived experiences related to their identities and feel honored to be able to support clients in breaking barriers and living up to their full potentials. If any of these speak to you, let’s chat!

Hi! I’m Nate. I'm a therapist licensed in New Mexico and Oregon who works adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, identity, stress, and men's issues. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years leading wilderness expeditions — an experience that shaped how I think about growth, connection, empowerment, and personal excellence. I use art therapy and play therapy with younger clients, and draw from CBT, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and experiential approaches with teens and adults. I show up as a real person in session — honest, direct, and occasionally funny when it helps. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is the most important ingredient in therapy. I'm not a blank slate — I have a perspective, I'll share it when it's helpful, and I'll challenge you when I think it serves you. My approach is collaborative and strength-based: I'm less interested in diagnosing what's wrong with you than in understanding what's gotten in the way and what you're already doing well. I tailor how I work to the person in front of me — that might mean using art or play with a child, walking through cognitive patterns with an anxious adult, or exploring how a man has been taught to relate to his own emotions. Whatever the approach, the goal is always the same: help you feel more like yourself again.

You have taken a big and brave first step into bettering yourself and addressing your mental well-being. I have worked with individuals from various different backgrounds and identities treating a wide array of mental conditions. In our collaborative work together, we will process and explore barriers that may be inhibiting you from your full human potential. Counseling can feel like a scary and overwhelming experience, but know that this is the first step to bettering yourself. Counseling can improve both your personal relationships with family and friends and give you a sense of fulfillment in your life. Together we can build a working relationship to discover ways to reduce your current condition while examining patterns that affect your interpersonal relationships based on cognitive processes. I practice from a psychodynamic framework, which is defined as exploring people's emotions, thoughts, motivations, and behaviors that are outside of our awareness. *Please note that I am only seeing students via Telehealth as my practice is now 100% remote.* My areas of interests and expertise include working with adults, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, work burnout, trauma, interpersonal relationships, men and masculinities, gender identity, new fatherhood, porn addiction, and self-compassion. I aim to create a safe space to process aspects that may seem like a hindrance to reaching your full potential.

My specialties are self-worth, relationships/attachment and traumas. From our earliest experience, that may not even be remembered, we've learned how to be in relationship. Some things may have been very helpful and other things we learned work against us. Through a lens of relationship much can be understood about ourselves. I offer both weekday and weekend sessions as business hours don't always work. I even offer in-home counseling (additional fees apply) for those who prefer or need me to come to them.

My passion is to assist people who desire to get unstuck, be more confident, feel more relaxed, connect with others, feel less irritable, communicate better, understand their dreams and are looking for meaning and purpose in their lives. We might be a good fit if you are someone who has difficulty with boundaries and assertiveness or think of yourself as a "people pleaser." Another good fit would be if you feel that you are lacking direction in your life or feel like "something is missing" but aren't sure what it is or how to find it.

Many of the students I work best with are navigating big transitions—adjusting to college or grad school, balancing academics with athletics, managing relationships, or figuring out what comes next. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or unsure of how to move forward. Some students come to me struggling with stress, burnout, or motivation, while others are working through challenges like past trauma, substance use, or relationship patterns that no longer serve them. I have a particular interest in supporting student-athletes and individuals dealing with performance pressure, identity, and the unique demands of competitive environments. Many of the people I work with feel stuck in old patterns and want to create meaningful, lasting change. In our work together, I focus on creating a space where you can be open, honest, and fully yourself without judgment. Therapy with me is collaborative—we’ll work as a team to better understand what’s going on and develop practical tools that fit your life. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and equipped to handle challenges now and in the future.

My goal is to bring a warm presence, calm demeanor, and intentionality to the therapeutic space. I understand that building connection and rapport are the foundation to all other therapeutic work and therefore I prioritize an environment where you can feel truly seen, heard, and understood without judgement. My purpose as a therapist is to provide that safe place where together we can explore your conscious and unconscious thoughts and gain insight into the parts of your life where you may be having difficulty. I recognize that therapy is a collaborative effort, and that each client is the expert in their own life. Thus, I will work with you to understand your unique life experiences and create a tailored treatment plan so that you can reach healing and wholeness. I will assist you on this journey by helping you understand how past experiences are impacting you, and will help you identify your own strengths, skills, and goals by providing tools that you can use even long after therapy is finished. I have experience supporting needs related to: children and youth, young adults, families, life transitions, drug and alcohol issues, trauma, attachment challenges, co-dependency, self-esteem, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, and anxiety.

You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and have for a very long time. As a child, you had to grow up quickly and take on adult roles, because you had a parent who wasn’t always able to be fully present. Overwhelming emotional pain weighs on you. And you’ve found that the emotional pain shows up as physical pain too - a literal heartache, muscle aches, or back pain. You’ve also lost your appetite or find yourself eating more than usual. You went through something horrific. And you thought you had dealt with it, you thought you could handle it on your own, but it keeps popping its pesky little head up in your current life and relationships. Speaking of which, you have a history of unsuccessful relationships. You long for closeness and intimacy - being validated, loved, and understood - but you can’t seem to avoid toxic people and/or sabotaging the good relationships because when there’s love and harmony you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop. Sometimes as a result of the way you’ve been treated, you question your own worth and value. You worry that your life will never be the same. The fear gnaws at you sometimes that maybe you will never get out from under this boulder of responsibility and heartache on your shoulders. You worry you will never be free. Like my clients, you deserve to find your footing, and discover healing and meaning in life again. Making a full recovery is not out of reach. If you want to not just move on, but move forward, I’d love to help you get there.

I provide comprehensive medication management for ADHD, depression, insomnia, PMDD, PTSD, and weight management. But I don't just treat symptoms. I treat the whole person. That means we're going to look at the full picture: your sleep habits, screen time, nutrition, movement, stress levels, and how you communicate. Because all of it matters. Your brain doesn't exist in a vacuum, and neither do your symptoms. If you're running on autopilot, procrastinating on work, can't focus, can't sleep, can't stick to the routines you know would help... you're frustrated with your eating habits, your exercise patterns, or how you feel during certain times of the month, or maybe you just don't feel like yourself lately. I can help. If you're ready to stop wasting energy on what drains you and start investing it where it actually counts, let's get started.
