Finding a comfortable fit between you and your therapist is a very important first step in the process of choosing a qualified licensed psychologist. My approach to therapy involves working in a collaborative, respectful, open, direct, and warm manner. Since our past and present often weave together, exploring the present within the context of the past helps us to understand life patterns which may greatly impact one's relationships, career, and overall physical and mental health. Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements. There are many different methods I may use to deal with the problems that you hope to address. Behavior therapy is not like a medical doctor visit. Instead, it calls for a very active effort on your part. In order for the therapy to be most successful, you will have to work on things we talk about both during our sessions, in between sessions, and at home. Psychotherapy can have benefits and risks. Since therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. On the other hand, psychotherapy has also been shown to have benefits for people who go through it. Therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress. But there are no guarantees of what you will experience. Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer you some first impressions regarding our work together, including a treatment plan to follow if you decide to continue with therapy. You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with me. Therapy involves a large commitment of time, money, and energy, so you should be very careful about the therapist you select. If you have questions about my procedures, we should discuss them whenever they arise.

Welcome, I am a therapist specializing in mindfulness. I started my undergraduate education as a Journalism major, because I have always been drawn to others’ stories. When I realized I wanted to not only listen, but also learn how to help, I changed my plans and decided to become a therapist. Now, curiosity, warmth, and genuine interest drive my work with individuals and couples. I believe that creating a warm, accepting environment in which you can slow down and give yourself time to process and move toward more peace, more calm, and more acceptance is invaluable. I like to work slowly and intentionally, with mindfulness and compassion at the center of what I do.

I specialize in working with late teens (16+) and adults navigating the transition into independence, identity, and adulthood. This stage of life can feel overwhelming—whether you're managing anxiety, adjusting to college or post-grad life, struggling with relationships, or feeling stuck in uncertainty about your next steps. Many of my clients are high-functioning but internally overwhelmed—balancing expectations, pressure, and major life changes while trying to figure out who they are and what they want. I provide a supportive space to slow things down, build insight, and develop practical tools to aid you in your journey. I strongly believe that we must take time to nurture our emotional and mental well being just as we do with our physical being.

Welcome! I'm Joanna. I work with adolescents (16+) & adults, most frequently young adults. I particularly enjoy working with transitional issues - changes in school, jobs, family, relationships, identity, etc. Often, my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or interpersonal conflict. I value working with folks with a range of backgrounds, races, faiths, genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. My work sees people through a systems lens, recognizes the oppressive barriers to mental wellness, and encourages reflection on cultural impact. My ideal client is open minded, patient, and motivated for change. I value flexibility in the therapeutic relationship and use a person-centered approach, whether that's structured skill building or an empathetic ear. I work mostly from an ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) framework, but also incorporate elements of CBT, DBT, and interpersonal therapy. I am not a true "blank slate" - healing comes from connections! I'm glad to have you here - it shows you've taken a huge first step towards healing, processing, and growth, and I'm honored to support you. Shoot me a message to get connected (note: telehealth only)! The extras: I am a cancer sun ISFJ, and I enjoy making pottery, reading fiction, going for walks/hikes, and watching reality TV with my dog.

I am licensed in DC, MD, NJ, PA, and VA and provide flexible teletherapy to fit your busy schedule! I hold advanced certification in an evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) model developed by Dr. David Burns at Stanford. I am also certified in CBT for insomnia (CBT-I) developed by Dr. Gregg Jacobs at Harvard. My approach is empathic, structured and active. I use brief mood surveys before and after sessions, to monitor progress and give you a chance to provide me with feedback. I will also expect you to practice new skills between sessions. When we start working together, I will learn about your unique situation to help us set goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. My clients typically start experiencing relief within a few sessions, and our work together results in lasting joy and fulfillment. Hello there, Feeling stuck? Feeling stressed out about all the things that are competing for your attention? Wanting to change your relationship with yourself, so you can spread your wings and soar? I'm Stefan (he/him) and I want to be there on your journey. Starting therapy can feel scary, even if you've been in therapy before! To lower that intensity a bit, I want you to give you an idea of how I show up to sessions: - I get to know you - your family, friends, hobbies, shows, loves, fears, passions. - I celebrate and hype you up when you do the hard thing. - I ask questions to get you curious about patterns in your life, and point out when you might not be aware of them. - I offer compassion when your mind creates judgments about yourself. - I welcome and ask for feedback, knowing some things will land and others will not. - I laugh with you and value humor. - I tear up when you feel hurt or uncover a tender spot (while also holding space for you to feel). - I'll tell you I'm proud of you. - I nerd out about mental health, skills, approaches, and explain concepts in a way you'll understand. - I slow down and speed up based on your cues, and I give you choice in how we go about sessions. - I'm always working on our relationship, so there's trust and security when we get to difficult things. - I acknowledge the bigger systems of oppression that affect your life and lives of your loved ones. - I'm active and dynamic in sessions - sometimes asking questions, leading an activity, listening and reflecting, interrupting to highlight something you said, and synthesizing information and summarizing it back to you. All of this "I" is the effort I put into helping you get to "you": what you want, what you care about, your goals, dreams, your emotions, stressors, internal talk, and who you want to become and how you want to show up in life. Specialties: queer and trans identities and lived experiences, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, substance use, navigating family dynamics, healing trauma, couples and relationship work, career discernment Approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR; trauma approach), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method (for relationship work), mindfulness and somatic interventions I'm an associate counselor, seeing clients through telehealth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. My typical availability is 8am-5pm EST, although I sometimes see clients earlier in the morning or early evening. I have in-person availability in Northampton, MA on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please reach out with any questions! I accept the following insurances: - United/Optum/UMR/UHC in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California - Harvard Pilgrim in Massachusetts Private pay rates are: Individual - $125-$175 Couples/Relationships/Family - $145-$195

Opening up is no small thing, but it's also the fundamental thing that gives folks relief. To this end, I try to make therapy a natural process and most of my clients say that I feel like "talking to a real person." I developed my style by working with university students on a number of campuses who taught me to drop the artificial formalities, ask deeper questions, be upfront with my care, and say what I mean. In general, I start from the standpoint that anyone seeking therapy has come by their pain honestly and that much of what folx find distressing in themselves is a reasonable response to what has happened to them. Thus, I am unlikely to give rote advice and more likely to partner with you in unpacking your past, exploring your feelings, reaching creative solutions, and lifting what's blocking you from moving toward your version of the good life. In terms of specialties, I help students work through the kinds of relationship troubles (family, romantic, friendships etc) that leave people feeling lonely, anxious, inadequate, seeking approval, depressed, misunderstood, self-critical, or slow to let others in. Queer folx, Student Veterans, adult children of alcoholics, overachievers, burnt out students, undergrad, law, medical, and grad students, young professionals, and folks in creative fields have found me helpful. Importantly, for therapy to be a liberating space, people need the freedom to talk about how their lives are shaped by their sociocultural identities as well as corresponding experiences of prejudice, marginalization, and erasure. Conversations about politics, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and all the "isms" are fair game and also integral to figuring out how to live with more ease in these difficult times.

Are you struggling? Is your mental health struggles getting in the way of your academic performance or social relationships? If so, I would love to help! I have over 19 years experience and 8 of those were at University Counseling Centers. I have worked both at the University of Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. Counseling can be intimidating and I believe that creating a trusting therapeutic relationship is a vital part of making it feel more comfortable. I work hard to collaborate with you- I listen to what is going on and has been getting in the way of being the best version of you. Together we will develop treatment goals to help you get back to a great place. I am passionate about working with people who are struggling with identity concerns, anxiety, depression, parenting concerns, interpersonal/relationship concerns, self-esteem, stress management, substance use concerns or trying to recover from a history of trauma. I utilize an integrative approach through a multicultural lens in my work meeting the client where they are at and learning about their goals, strengths and struggles that they want to overcome. I love to use a strength based approach that is client centered and solution focused. I am passionate about integrating physical exercise and skill building into treatment to help with sustainability of progress. Lastly, from my experience, clients who do the best in treatment are ones who do work outside of our appointments to apply and utilize the skills/resources we are discussing.
