Perhaps it’s hard to relax and have fun, or the pressures of work or school leave little room for anything else. You may have realized the expectations you set for yourself are unrealistic, that you compare your negatives with others’ positives and over commit or overwhelm yourself, leading to burnout. You might have difficulty making decisions, or have a hard time figuring out the ‘rules’ of life. Drawing boundaries, especially when doing so feels scary, might be a challenge, leading you to give into people that guilt or intimidate you. Perhaps you place the needs of others before your own, and are left feeling resentful when your own aren’t met, or perhaps you take out frustration on the ones you love. You are not alone. My passion is helping clients as they work to better understand themselves, their personal and family histories, and the world around them. I work with adults and adolescents to reduce and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety, process grief and trauma, improve relationships, and change behavioral patterns such as procrastination or perfectionism. I am a believer in therapy to alleviate distress but also as a regular part of wellness and recognize the importance the connection between our minds and bodies. I understand the dynamics that affect adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families and survivors of child abuse and neglect. I enjoy working with adults from such backgrounds as they take a look back, build a more complete picture of their life story, and often find solace in knowing that they aren’t alone. My first career was in public-school education, and I've worked extensively with high school and college students. I have witnessed the stress that students are often under just trying to stay afloat. Working as a motivational speaker and speech and debate coach has allowed me to follow a passion for helping others find their voice. I have experience in coaching teens and adults to use words and ideas to change themselves and the world around them.

My current and past work experience provides me with skills and knowledge to journey with our clients. I obtained my Bachelor's in Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Human Development and Family Sciences as well as my Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston. I am also fluent in Spanish. I draw from these important educational and work experiences to work with clients who are facing life transition issues, conflict in relationships, and psychosocial adjustment to health issues. My approach is rooted in compassion, mutual respect toward each client, and mindfulness of the dignity of each human person. Everyone's needs and experiences are different. Welcome! I am a Judi Yapias board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor, and I specialize in intergenerational trauma and understanding how trauma and stress affect the body. To better understand what your body is signaling, I integrate modalities in my practice such as mindfulness-based therapy, somatic techniques, and trauma-conscious approaches. This is an impactful approach to better understanding big and uncomfortable emotions, what the body is communicating, and those teeny, tiny voices of intuition telling us something is off. My goal is to help you begin the process of understanding and connecting with yourself on a deeper level. We’ll work on building trust between your head and heart and explore all the things about your life - cultural identity, relationships, behaviors, values, feelings, and belief systems. Together, we’ll create a foundation that empowers you to feel more integrated and aligned. Specialties Mental Health Conditions treated Relationship issues Trauma Anxiety ADHD Depression Treatment philosophy Whether you may be experiencing BIG feelings, interpersonal struggles, or wanting to better understand yourself, I am here to support you using a collaborative approach. Through a guided process and integration of mindfulness-based and trauma-conscious approaches, you and I will talk through your lived experiences. Some of these discussions will give you a sense of joy, sadness, frustration, anxiousness, pride, and excitement. As we dig and uncover these stories in a safe space, we often begin a discovery of your strengths and wisdom - from a present you and intergenerational standpoint. This experience is almost like when your body constricts and caves into a discomfort and, once ready to release, it expands and grows. Welcome — I’m so glad you’re here. I work best with individuals who are navigating the impact of trauma and who are open to exploring how their past continues to live in their body and shape their present. Together, we’ll gently uncover how your experiences have influenced your nervous system, your emotions, and your inner narrative—so that healing can begin not just in the mind, but in the body as well. My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that the body holds deep wisdom. Through Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, yoga, breathwork, and sound therapy, I support clients in reconnecting with their inner guidance system—the intuition that emerges when we truly listen inward. This work can bring about clarity, regulation, and a felt sense of peace that goes beyond intellectual insight. At its core, my work is relational and intuitive. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens in connection—with self, with body, and with another safe presence. My role is to walk alongside you with compassion, helping you explore your story and reconnect with your innate capacity for resilience and wholeness. If you’re feeling the pull toward deeper healing—toward safety, embodiment, and self-trust—I invite you to schedule a consultation. You don’t have to do this alone.

We offer trauma informed therapy for children, teens, and adults, in-person in South Austin, telehealth available to all Texas residents. I specialize in helping women in their 20s and 30s who are struggling with anxiety in relationships and sex, or those who are processing past sexual trauma or toxic relationships. Many of my clients notice patterns or traits within themselves which are impacting their relationships and intimacy, leaving them feeling disconnected and at a loss for what might help. In addition to my work with adults, I also enjoy working with children and adolescents (ages 3-18), especially those who are neurodivergent or highly sensitive. With a background as a Preschool Teacher, a Registered Behavior Technician working with children on the Autism Spectrum, and as a long-time babysitter, I am able to connect deeply with young people to help them feel understood. My personal experience growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, which manifested as an inability to regulate my emotions, extreme sensitivity, and emotional outbursts, informs this work. I approach this work as an opportunity to nurture my own inner child and offer the support I wish I’d had growing up. I utilize a client-centered, strengths-based approach to play therapy in order to help the children I work with feel safe to express themselves authentically. My approach is compassionate and trauma-informed, integrating Nervous System Regulation, Somatic Experiencing, Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Informed Care to help you rebuild trust in yourself and cultivate healthier relationships. My priority is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring your emotions and experiences without judgment. In our work together, we’ll explore your past and present, identify patterns, and create a plan for healing.
Monica is a bilingual therapist and the child of immigrants who believes that true healing grows from the threads that connect us — to our bodies, to the people around us, and to the world we inhabit. Growing up between cultures, she learned early how identity, language, and community shape our sense of self. Her journey to counseling has been shaped not only by professional experience in diverse communities and holistic mind-body practices, but also by years of personal self-healing and self-discovery through reading, reflection, and engagement with feminist theory and history. These experiences have deepened her understanding of how gender, power, and society influence our inner lives and relationships. She works with women and femmes who have ADHD and has a nuanced understanding of how gender shapes ADHD lived experiences. Monica provides compassionate support for the unique challenges and strengths ADHD brings, helping clients navigate identity, relationships, and self-trust with insight and validation. In working with Monica, clients will learn about themselves and ways to leverage their neurodiversity to their benefit, allowing it to enhance their lives rather than hinder them. Monica is also passionate about supporting women in reclaiming their sensuality, self-trust, and pleasure, particularly in the wake of trauma. Her work in this area integrates conversation, somatic awareness, mindfulness, and embodiment practices, including yoga. By creating a safe and affirming space where clients can explore intimacy, desire, boundaries, and identity without shame, the therapeutic space allows clients to heal, reconnect, and embody their true sensual power. Through therapy, Monica guides clients to reconnect with themselves fully. In connecting to their bodies, minds, desires, and voices, clients can cultivate lives that feel grounded, empowered, and authentically their own.
