Therapists for college students near Austin, TX
Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, you are unable to see yourself as more than a body? That diet culture is so deeply ingrained in our society that it feels impossible to escape? You are not alone. We live in a world that has convinced us that pursuing an unrealistic thin ideal is the key to happiness. That if we "work hard enough," that void we constantly feel, will eventually go away. That's why my goal is to help you reach a place of acceptance so that you can experience a more fulfilling life, free from diet culture and the toxicity that ensues. I specialize in treating children (as young as 10), adolescents, and adults struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, body dysmorphia, and other related disorders. As a bilingual therapist, I am able to conduct therapy sessions in Spanish. While my primary specialty is eating disorders, I also help individuals better cope with anxiety, manage life transitions, and develop a healthier sense of self. I believe that in order to fully heal, we must get to the root cause - exploring childhood trauma and interpersonal relationships is a big part of the work I do with my clients.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, I specialize in supporting adolescents and young adults through life’s transitions, emotional challenges, and identity development. My practice blends evidence-based modalities—including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness—with a relational, strengths-based approach that meets clients where they are. I’ve worked extensively with young adults navigating anxiety, grief, academic pressure, and family dynamics, and I bring that same attuned, developmentally informed lens to my work with college students. Whether clients are adjusting to campus life, managing mental health concerns, or exploring their values and goals, I offer a safe, inclusive space for healing and growth. My mission is to empower young people with tools for resilience, self-awareness, and emotional regulation—while honoring the unique cultural, social, and personal contexts that shape their experiences. Do you ever feel like your mind just won’t turn off—replaying conversations, worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet, and finding it impossible to relax? Many of the people I work with experience these same struggles. They often share that they feel exhausted, disconnected, and like their lives lack meaning as they work tirelessly to keep it together on the outside. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can quietly weave their way into our lives and, if left unchecked, can take control and lead us into a downward spiral. Let me help you lighten the weight of these burdens and begin healing together.

My personal experience with therapy, first at a young age and consistently throughout my life, is what inspired me to pursue my own clinical social work license. Therapy provided a safe space for me and a consistency that didn’t exist anywhere else in my life. My goal has always been to pass that gift along to my clients. I practice the tools I teach to clients in my own life and I show up authentically when I'm with clients. I am a therapist who is happy to answer questions from clients that will help them feel safe in the therapeutic relationship.

College can be exciting—and overwhelming at the same time. Many students come to counseling feeling stressed, burned out, unsure of who they are becoming, or anxious about the future. You might be juggling classes, work, relationships, family expectations, and big questions about identity and direction—while feeling like you’re supposed to have it all figured out. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where college students and young adults can slow down, process what they’re carrying, and feel genuinely understood. Counseling with me is collaborative, practical, and focused on helping you feel more grounded, confident, and clear as you move forward. I Work With Students Navigating: *Academic stress, burnout, and pressure to perform *Anxiety, overthinking, and constant mental fatigue *Identity exploration (values, purpose, faith, culture, self-worth) *Life transitions (starting college, transferring, graduating, post-grad uncertainty) *Career uncertainty, major decisions, and fear of “choosing wrong” *Relationship challenges (dating, friendships, family dynamics) *Perfectionism, people-pleasing, and imposter syndrome *Feeling lost, stuck, or disconnected from yourself You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling—many students come simply because they want support during a demanding season of life. My approach is warm, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence-based counseling practices. Sessions are a space where you can talk openly, ask questions, and develop tools that actually help in daily life—whether that’s managing stress, improving boundaries, or making sense of who you’re becoming. If you are a Christian who values faith as part of your life, I also offer Christian counseling upon request. This is always optional and guided by your comfort level.

Hi, I'm Michelle Gorden, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am currently training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Gottman Method for couples. I specialize in treating mood disorders, trauma, and PTSD. My background is diverse and supports my ability to help my clients reach their highest potential. I have worked in criminal justice, crisis stabilization, case management, and residential treatment. I am skilled in facilitating psycho-educational groups and providing intensive outpatient therapy. I strive to work collaboratively with each client in a non-judgmental space to improve overall happiness and well-being. Counseling can help you with many stressors in life such as anxiety, depression, grief, eating disorders, family conflict, and self-exploration. Counseling provides a safe place to take risks, be vulnerable, gain support, and become empowered to change your life. I have a laid-back style and focus on creating a safe space. My approach is pretty eclectic and my philosophy is that therapy can’t be one-size-fits-all. Treatments should be customized to each individual client, couple, or family. If you are ready to start your journey, please fill out our intake form and request to work with me.

You're probably here because there is a part of you that knows you were created for more. You were made for deeper connections, more freedom and laughter, a greater sense of purpose and fullness of life. Life is hard. And somewhere along the way we begin relating to ourselves and others from a place of fear and woundedness. We numb ourselves, make ourselves small, and hide the parts that we fear will be rejected. We get stuck in patterns of feeling unlovable, unworthy, afraid, and disconnected from joy. Therapy can help you realign with your true self and find compassion and healing for the parts that feel stuck.
