At Anam Cara Counseling, our mission is to foster healing within individuals, families, and the community by addressing emotional wounds, nurturing resilience, and championing mental wellness. We provide trauma-informed mental health counseling for adolescents, adults, veterans, and families through a variety of evidence-based and experiential approaches tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Our practice offers traditional talk therapy alongside specialized services such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, mindfulness-based approaches, somatic and nervous system-informed interventions, and other trauma-focused modalities. Equine-assisted psychotherapy is a powerful experiential form of therapy in which clients interact with horses for personal insight, emotional regulation, connection, and growth. No riding or horse experience is required. We believe healing happens in the context of safe, attuned relationships. Many individuals come to us during some of the most vulnerable, confusing, or painful periods of their lives, and we strive to create a space where they feel seen, supported, and empowered to move toward healing at their own pace. Our work emphasizes emotional safety, authenticity, nervous system regulation, self-understanding, and resilience. At Anam Cara, we recognize the deep connection between mind, body, relationships, and environment. Whether in the therapy office, outdoors, or alongside the herd, we seek to provide compassionate, individualized care that honors each person’s story, strengths, and capacity for growth and healing.

My private practice sees patients of all ages but I specialize in women and most of my current clients are young adults or early teens. Having teenagers of my own, and one college student, gives me a perspective that I feel is helpful not only as a therapist but as a mother. I feel all students need a safe space to share private information that is kept confidential especially since privacy is often difficult in a college setting.

My work is always personalized to each individual’s unique needs and goals, empowering them with practical tools and deeper self-awareness along the way. You are trying to hold it all together, but just can’t take it anymore. You’ve hit your breaking point and don’t know what to do. Self-doubt, over-thinking everything, questioning what will make you happy. It seems like everyone else has it figured out, but you can't get it together. This is supposed to be the best time of your life, but you can't seem to enjoy it, and you need help. My name is Jennifer Branstetter, and I help students who are struggling and overwhelmed with their mental health. It might be hard to keep up with school, and maybe this is the first time you've ever struggled academically and you're wondering if something's wrong with you. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD symptoms can interfere with forming friendships or having the "college experience" and maybe you're questioning if you made the right school choice. Maybe you aren't connecting socially or feel like you fit in. Sometimes the transition to college can be a lot harder than expected, or something like a breakup can throw you for a loop. It's common for students in this situation to feel an immense amount of pressure. Sometimes it feels like you can't talk to anyone else about it. Therapy can be a place to get it all out, figure out what is contributing to the problem, and come up with a plan to get better. It's time to get some support. You don't have to do this alone. My practice has been virtual since 2018 from my home office in Southeast Indiana, outside of Cincinnati. I see people in Indiana, Ohio, and Florida. If you have a therapist at home, I'd be happy to connect with them to make the transition easier, and stay on the same page if you see them on breaks. I can also help connect you with on-campus resources or medication providers if needed. Reach out to schedule a call to see if we're a good fit.

Why does it always feel like the to-do list is never-ending and what’s done is never quite enough? You are diligent about keeping on top of things and it’s gotten you pretty far. Yet, you find yourself asking “I’m running myself ragged for this?” Work-life balance? Who has time for that! Well, you are not alone. Like you, the individuals I work with tend to be busy, successful, professionals who feel stressed, anxious, and unsatisfied and struggle with burnout and imposter syndrome. They seem like they have it all together but live in fear of dropping the ball while trying to juggle all the other ones in the air. Sound familiar? The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. I help you sort out what needs to change and how to create a life where you feel excited and fulfilled. None of that is easy, but it is doable. My approach is genuine, kind, and challenging with a bit of cheerleader because we all need a friendly push sometimes with someone encouraging us along the way. You’re busy and don’t have time or energy to spend on things that don’t work. I use evidence-based strategies customized to meet your unique needs. Together we’ll create a plan that works for you. I offer individual therapy exclusively online as well as other services such as workshops and mindfulness. Contact me for a free consultation.

Welcome—I'm really glad you're here! College can be exciting, but it can also be a lot. Classes, relationships, family pressure, figuring out your future—it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or unsure of yourself. Maybe you're dealing with anxiety, stress, or anger that feels hard to manage. Maybe you're struggling with a relationship, exploring your identity, or just feeling stuck. You don’t have to go through it alone. I work well with students who are thoughtful, stressed, curious, or just trying to get a handle on things. You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong. If you’ve been telling yourself, “I should be able to deal with this,” but nothing’s changing, therapy might be the space you need. Our sessions are a place for real talk. You bring whatever's on your mind, and I’ll listen without judgment. We’ll figure out what’s going on, talk it through, and I’ll offer practical tools to help you handle what life throws at you. We can cover anything from academic stress and relationship drama to anger, sex, identity questions, or big life decisions. Everything is online, so you can talk to me from your dorm, apartment, or anywhere you feel comfortable. If this sounds like what you need, or if you're just curious about how therapy could help, reach out. You don’t have to do college—and everything that comes with it—on your own. You can schedule directly at www.buckblack.com

Hello! My name is Sarah Hummel and I am a virtual mental health counselor licensed in Indiana. I have experience working with a variety of individuals, and especially enjoy working with adults who are struggling with anxiety and traumatic events. I enjoy using EMDR therapy to help individuals process through trauma. I enjoy helping individuals process through their experiences with anxiety, depression, along with varying issues and life changes they may experience. It is important to me to approach each person as an individual and understand the nuances of their problems. I believe that building a relationship based on trust and understanding is essential to the therapeutic process. My style of counseling focuses on listening and understanding. I also enjoy using CBT to help clients work through their issues and always come from a place of encouragement and compassion. For those who desire, I also enjoy utilizing faith- based therapy as a route to help individuals find healing. I feel called to work as a counselor because I believe that each person is inherently valuable, and it is my goal to help each individual see the value that they have as a person. I truly hope the person reading this will see the value in themselves and ask for help.

Do you have insomnia or struggle with nightmares? Want to improve your mood, reduce worry/anxious thoughts, change unwanted behaviors, or better manage a tough relationship? My niche is working with clients seeking medium to short-term (1 year or less), goal-oriented counseling. Studies show many people benefit from this more focused approach. Sometimes even a handful of sessions can get you moving in a better direction! I'll help you identify realistic, concrete steps to make the changes you want to see in your life & together we'll create a plan to work toward your goals. (Note: this is not a good fit for every person/problem.) I'm a Psychologist with 22 years of experience & work with adults age 18+. I use evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and integrate aspects of ACT & Mindfulness if appropriate for your needs. I'm also trained in CBT for Insomnia & CBT-Nightmares, both of which are shown to have positive benefits on other mental health symptoms. It can be hard to start counseling, especially if this is your first time or you found counseling un-helpful in the past. Good for you for taking this first step toward feeling better! Let's schedule a 15 minute phone conversation to find out what you're looking to accomplish through counseling & if we might be a good fit. Please note: I do not provide assessments/testing, and I do not write letters/complete forms for Emotional Support Animals, probation, court/legal situations, disabilities, ADHD, learning disorders, etc..

Wondering if therapy is right for you? When I explained counseling to my 10-year-old daughter, she sat across from me on the floor and made a connection I'll never forget. She concluded, "So mom, you'd be like my own personal target. All of my thoughts and feelings are like arrows that I can throw at you." Yes, that's exactly what counseling is like. A safe place you can hurl "arrows," so they don't have the power to hurt you with their sharp points! You are not defined by your experiences or struggles. Taking a step toward counseling is brave because healing is a process and finding wholeness is a journey. Life is challenging to say the least! Let me walk alongside you as you navigate finding renewed hope. Together, we will discover who you are becoming!
