Therapists for college students near Boston College
Your present need not be your future! Life isn’t always easy. Today you may be anxious, depressed, stuck, overwhelmed, flunking out, and/or obsessed. Tomorrow can be different. The path to a better future may involve courageously exploring emotions or it may involve learning and practicing new habits or strategies. Sometimes little changes cause dramatic results. My specialty is working with you to determine what will work best for you. To this task I bring great depth and breadth of experience. I was actually a college dropout before I became a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist after first becoming an Educational & Career Counselor & then applying my knowledge & skills on myself. I’ve been in private practice as a therapist for over 30 years, have consulted to hospitals for decades as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, taught the graduate course Neuropsychology to psychology doctoral students for 18 years, created the graduate course Nutrition, Brain and Behavior, provided lectures on neuropsychology for medical students and residents through Harvard Medical School’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and created many continuing education courses for psychologists and lectured college counselors nationwide on improving college performance. I’ve done thousands of assessments encompassing ADHD, learning disability, autism, memory disorders, executive dysfunction, anxiety disorders and depression, yet, despite this I do not think in terms of these labels. Most sessions begin with screening not to assign a diagnosis but determination of the type of psychotherapy or lifestyle changes with which you are likely to feel most comfortable. Take the first step towards a better tomorrow.
I am a warm, straightforward therapist focused on providing effective treatment. I work to connect genuinely with each of my patients because I believe the first component of effective treatment is the formation of a trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship. With this relationship as the foundation, we can then collaboratively determine your goals and take measurable steps to achieving the change you want in your life. I specialize in the treatment of adolescents and young adults struggling with depression, sexual and gender identity, suicidality, emotion regulation, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship problems, family issues, academic and occupational stress, and life transitions. I specialize in Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. These approaches seek to provide practical skills to manage the emotions and thoughts that are interfering with our lives. I have also trained in trauma based and exposure protocols. In addition, I have specific training in supporting those who identify as gender non-conforming and offer both assessment and supportive counseling to individuals and families. I appreciate the courage it takes to talk with a therapist. Therapy is a very active process, with both the client and the therapist putting in considerable effort, and I will work with you to create the treatment environment that best meets your individual needs.
It takes courage and commitment to begin the therapy process. Here at Mainstay Counseling & Wellness, LLC, we believe that our clients are capable of profound healing and change. It is our job to provide you with a safe and supportive place for reflection and exploration, and to help you identify thought and behavior patterns that create distress and inhibit growth. We consider ourselves to be a collaborative, person-centered and empirically minded group of psychotherapists that utilize several different specializations, strategies and interventions specifically tailored to meet your individual needs. Being a person is tough. We’re here to help you get the support you deserve.

Codi is a psychotherapist with experience working working adolescents and adults seeking support managing life changes. Codi practices from a relational, client centered approach. In addition to a B.A. in Feminist and Gender Studies from Colorado College, Codi holds a Masters of Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. They come to APP with previous experience in access to higher education, direct service with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, and community mental health. We are a holistic and integrative counseling + wellness practice that strives to assist you in finding the root cause for what you have been experiencing, thus bringing you back to balance. We believe that there are so many factors that contribute to dysfunction in our health, and if one aspect is off then that's when we start to experience symptoms. These symptoms - whether a warm body temperature, a headache, or anxiety - are energetic shifts in our body that alert us. Through the process of counseling, wellness programs, specific approaches, and other offerings we provide, you will explore these dysfunctions, get to the root of them, and ultimately become a more balanced self. Wherever you are at in this moment, that's where we will begin. Together we will uncover, strengthen, and uplift the loose pieces that create who you are. Just remember: the anchor will always be there and can be used anytime throughout the process
Many people I work with describe their struggles with self-doubt, persistent worries, irrational fears, and "overthinking" tendencies, saying that they second-guess themselves and struggle to quiet their anxious thoughts. Often, these struggles are a result of past traumatic events that have shaped how the brain perceives the world. Other times, these struggles may trace back to unhelpful messaging from outside sources, which can result in learned behaviors, patterns, and ways of thinking that promote anxiety, worry, and shame. I use modalities such as EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT to support clients with these struggles. Therapy can support us to uncover and understand the impacts that traumas and other past events have on how we navigate the world. This awareness, coupled with therapeutic interventions, can support us to heal from past hardships and make changes to the learned survival techniques that are no longer serving us. Those who work with me describe me as compassionate, accepting, and interactive in my approach, and I strive to create a comfortable and judgment-free environment for my clients. I offer online scheduling, specialized, evidence-based approaches, and brief, no-cost phone consultations. I encourage you to reach out to see if working together may be a good fit!
