Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Life changes happen to all of us. Sometimes they happen all at once and sometimes they happen over a long period of time. Maybe you've found yourself struggling to adjust to a major life change or maybe you've realized that it's time to talk about issues that have been building over many years. Whatever the case, I believe that now is the just the right time to begin the process of healing, building connection, and living more wholeheartedly. I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can feel free to explore your feelings, take risks, and engage in the hard work it takes to create lasting positive changes. I provide individual counseling to people of all ages, but specialize in working with teenagers and young adults. Taking the first step to create lasting changes can be a very difficult decision. It is an enormous privilege for me to witness the courage of each of my clients as they embark on their own journeys toward more connection, healing, and wholehearted living.
My name is Amy Read and I am an Adult & Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I have specialized my interests in health & wellness after years of struggling with my own symptoms ... symptoms of pain, brain fog, IBS, difficulty with focus, inability to concentration, a very forgetful memory, and so many more. Like so many other suffering I feared the worse, I believed I must have early onset dementia or even cancer. Luckily, I was cleared of anything life threating, but I was told nothing could be done to make me feel better. I realized that I had to find a way to change the outcome, because I was not going to let my life slip by. Because of my personal challenges, I found functional medicine. I found a way to "cure" myself and reclaim my life. It was hard. It took a lot of time. It took work. It took family support. Now I am able to live again and I have many roles and titles, the best of which is being a mother to 6 beautiful children. I love the sun and the beach, if I have a day off that's where you'll find me! The water is mesmerizing and the sun enlightens my soul! I am now a functional medicine practitioner nurse practitioner and bring over 25 years of experience into my practice. Functional medicine has saved my life and become my passion for helping others. My own triumphs and trials with depression, anxiety, ADHD, food sensitivities and fibromyalgia allow me to have a deep understanding of what my clients are going through and what they need to have in order to achieve the life of their dreams. Through my programs, clients who are committed and ready for change, are able to obtain optimal health and wellness.

Every person has a unique perspective, so taking time to understand your needs and experiences helps me tailor therapy to your goals. I hope to facilitate growth through building awareness of patterns of experiences, while fostering autonomy to challenge unwanted patterns. I am a fully licensed psychologist in the Grand Rapids area. I previously worked in college counseling centers, and understand the challenges that can come with this time in your life! Hello, my name is Jessica. I am passionate about helping individuals and families find hope and healing amidst life's challenges. I provide client-centered counseling services, which allows us to focus on how your situation impacts you, as well as use and develop skills and resources to support you in achieving your goals. I graduated from Cornerstone University with my B.S. in Youth Ministry in 2015 and have over 10 years of working with teens and young adults in various capacities. From here, I returned to Cornerstone to finish my M.A. in Counseling. I have a specialization in working with teens, young adults, and their families, but also enjoy working with people of all ages who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and grief. My story gives me a unique perspective in understanding the challenges of ministry leadership, women experiencing infertility, adoption, and unexpected death loss.
I use an integrative approach where I am able to meet you where you are at with compassion, curiosity, and encouragement to evaluate and tailor evidence-based treatments to fit your needs. My desire is to partner with you in exploring your story and help you experience healing. I have enjoyed working with people from a variety of life stages from adolescence through late adulthood. I love working with those who are experiencing grief and loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, planning for the future, and those who might just feel "stuck". In 2025, I received training in cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) from the Stanford Sleep Health and Insomnia Program. I consider it a privilege to sit with you as you share your life with me. My hope is that I can create a safe place for you to explore your depths and deepest parts while feeling supported and accepted. I would love to come alongside of you in the midst of your journey and witness your growth.
My goal for counseling is to provide an open and accepting environment for everyone. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, and it's important to feel connected to whoever you work with. I hope that my practice provides that for you.
Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to balance school, work, relationships, family expectations, or figuring out what is next. You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can show up as you are and talk openly about what's on your mind. Together, we'll work on understanding what you are going through, managing stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions, and building practical skills to help you feel more confident and grounded. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, identity, and major life changes like college, starting a career, or simply learning how to navigate adulthood. Whether you are considering therapy for the first time or coming back after a break, my goal is to make the experience feel welcoming, collaborative, and helpful. I currently offer virtual therapy sessions for Michigan residents.

Even on campuses surrounded by other students, college and grad school can feel very isolating and overwhelming. Starting therapy might be the first step in acknowledging that you don't have to carry these challenges alone or without support. I am currently accepting new clients at Mindful Counseling Standale and online. I work with college students seeking support for anxiety, depression, relationship & family challenges, emotional regulation, separation/attachment anxiety, life transitions, and identity development. I especially enjoy working with college students, and working adults as they navigate independence, college adjustment, academic and career pressures, and finding their identity. Whether you’re seeking support, clarity, or personal growth, I’m committed to partnering with you in the therapeutic process. My approach is integrative and individualized, drawing from CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based and somatic interventions, and person-centered therapy. I tailor treatment to each client’s developmental stage, with an emphasis on emotional regulation, insight, and building resilience through exploring your personal strengths. I strive to create a compassionate, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable being themselves. Therapy is a shared human experience in which we work together toward understanding, healing, and growth. I believe change happens through connection and collaboration.
