Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Many mental health issues are related to a trauma response in the brain and body. Trauma is often conceptualized as one single event or experience that causes intense fear or distress. However, not all people who experience these kinds of events develop trauma symptoms, and many people who do experience trauma symptoms cannot identify a single event such as this. Another way to understand trauma symptoms is that they occur when an individual’s context overwhelms their nervous system’s ability to cope. This forces the nervous system to utilize strategies to try to bring the body back into balance. These strategies are usually useful or adaptive in the moment, but unhealthy and disruptive in the long run. The coping patterns can be related to addiction, disordered eating, the way we emotionally engage in relationships, or the chronic up-regulation (anxiety) or down-regulation (depression) of our nervous system. All are attempts to process the energy stored in the nervous system in response to stressors. Together we will utilize elements of mindfulness, somatic expression, Family Systems Theory, and Narrative therapy to develop new strategies to express emotion, regulate the nervous system, and communicate effectively with ourselves and with the people in our lives.
Hi I'm Gaby. If you have been feeling sick and stuck in a negative thought process and wondering if there is anyone who can understand or help you, let's talk. I am here to help you experience change and escape from the pattern of life that has left you feeling different, unwell, and stuck. I am first and foremost a Trauma Informed Recovery Therapist. This means that I believe in you and I believe in your goals and I know we can find a way to get there while acknowledging all that you have been through. I love using a lot of different approaches depending on what we are working on. Some of my favorite methods are cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology, strength based therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
I specialize in working with students who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, who feel too "in their head", and who struggle to take control of their own thoughts. During our work together, we'll help you to feel more confident, more connected with the people around you, and more ready to take on life's challenges. Our sessions will be highly structured. We'll learn a meditative technique that will help you to disrupt patterns of rumination, helping you to feel more relaxed and clear-headed. At the end of our sessions, we'll reflect on takeaways and set intentions for our next session. Finally, we'll use screeners and regular check-ins to assess our progress over time. I've helped hundreds of clients overcome their anxiety and lead fuller, more meaningful lives. If you feel that my methods would help you, please reach out to schedule an intake session. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

Accepting the journey, we've been on and the need for change can feel overwhelming. Often therapy is seen as a one-sided conversation, let's change that narrative together. As your therapist, it is important to me to create a relationship where you feel safe and supported. We can explore what acceptance, healing, and growth means to you and create a plan to achieve those goals. I am passionate about working with teens and adults experiencing life transitions, anxiety, depression, women's mental health, PTSD, and identity development. I offer engaging, honest conversation to encourage accountability towards growth and acceptance. I believe that you have the capacity for growth when you feel seen, heard, and respected. Bring your emotional support water bottle or coffee and let's get to work on creating the best version of yourself.

You’re not alone if you’re realizing you might have OCD. Many people spend years stuck in their heads, battling intrusive thoughts, compulsions, hyper-specific fears, or chronic anxiety that pulls them away from the lives they want to live. I specialize in treating OCD and related disorders including perinatal and postpartum OCD, health anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, specific phobias, emetophobia, and coping with anxiety-induced hypertension. My practical, evidence-based approach provides tools to manage symptoms, challenge unhelpful patterns, and build lasting resilience so you can feel more in control in your daily life. OCD commits many crimes against its sufferers, but one of the cruelest is the hope it steals. You can feel better than you do now. This doesn’t have to be your life. I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients face fears, reduce compulsions, and reclaim a meaningful life. All sessions are online. Visit my website to schedule a consult. We will work together to pinpoint actionable steps and build coping skills, so you can begin to see positive changes right away.
