I enjoy supporting people with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, perfectionism, and self-harm. Along with a warm and accepting environment, I also bring humor and authenticity. I consider all human complexity from a holistic point of view. A holistic perspective embraces the interconnections between the body, the mind, and the spirit. All our behaviors and symptoms have a purpose. My core theoretical orientation is trauma-informed Adlerian Psychotherapy. I practice CBT, DBT, MBSR, and EMDR, among a multitude of other Evidence-Based interventions. My specialization focus is trauma and I have multiple advanced hours of training making me equipped to help you dig in the roots of your most pesky daily weeds, when and if you are ready to roll your sleeves up. In my practice of Attachment-based EMDR, I have seen profound changes in clients' healing and personal growth. Flash technique is another form of EMDR intervention known for being much gentler and softer when processing extremely hard memories. My therapeutic style is best described as direct yet compassionate, with a holistic and systems-view perspective. I do use humor and I also believe in the cathartic nature of a good ugly cry. One of the reasons I decided to pursue my lifelong passion of helping people therapeutically (too mature for their age or adults still young at heart) on a professional level was to provide validation, unconditional support, guidance, and skills that my younger self needed and wanted. Are you a first-generation college student struggling to navigate the educational system without the emotional and fiscal support you deserve? Are you struggling to navigate the competing demands of educational, cultural, societal, and self-imposed expectations? Are you feeling overwhelmed? I AM here to help! If you are contemplating throwing the towel or about to, before you give in to the "overwhelm," I encourage you to give therapy a try. Truly, what do you have to lose? I am also a Mom who loves working with other mothers and women as they navigate the challenges of parenting, post-partum concerns, divorce, pregnancy loss, and the emotional impact of fertility issues. My personal experiences have informed my additional strength in working with First Generation Immigrants as they/we navigate the process of acculturation. I continue to be inspired by the healing power of human connection in the therapeutic process. I look forward to hearing from you and starting your journey of self-discovery and healing. I provide therapy in English and Bulgarian.

At Twin Cities ADHD, we work best with students who are feeling overwhelmed, scattered, or misunderstood—especially those who’ve been told they just need to “try harder” or “get organized,” but haven’t been given real tools or support. Whether you’ve had an ADHD diagnosis for years or you’re just starting to wonder if ADHD might be part of your story, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I specialize in helping college students understand how their brains work, build systems that match their strengths, and feel more confident navigating school, relationships, and everyday life. Many of my clients deal with procrastination, perfectionism, emotional ups and downs, or feeling like they’re falling behind despite trying their best. My approach is practical, collaborative, and free of judgment. We focus on what’s going right, not just what’s going wrong. If you're looking for a space where you can be real, get tools that actually work, and feel seen for who you are—not just your symptoms—we’d love to support you.

Psychologist
Minneapolis, MN

My training experiences as a clinical psychologist have spanned a broad range of treatment settings (inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization) and treatment populations (adults, adolescents, and children). I have worked with many types of people throughout my career: from high-functioning professionals who are experiencing job-related stress, to individuals suffering from chronic and persistent mental illness. Above all, I specialize in helping people heal “relational trauma.” This term is a broad one, and difficult to succinctly describe (but I’ll try my best) —People who have endured relational trauma oftentimes have a childhood marked by emotional misattunement (others not correctly reading and responding to their emotional needs), emotional neglect, emotional or physical abuse, and confusing relationships with others. Typically, those with relational trauma have parents who might have been less warm, more emotionally enmeshed or punitive, or simply too consumed with their own issues or trauma to correctly “attune” to the needs of the child. Sometimes, this trauma results from some major personal or family trauma (e.g., divorce, death, major illness of a family member). So how does relational trauma affect us in adulthood? This can show up in many ways, some of which include: * Difficulty regulating emotions (e.g., feeling constantly overwhelmed by anxiety and fear) * Chronic shame and guilt * Constantly “beating” oneself up or putting oneself down * Difficulty depending on others (e.g., emotionally) * Discomfort with emotional intimacy and problems maintaining healthy relationships * Feeling “empty” on the inside and struggling with identity issues * Worrying about interpersonal abandonment, rejection, criticism, etc. * Excessive need for approval, being overly submissive or suggestible I would like to offer hope — the mental health field has begun to increasingly appreciate the effect of childhood on adulthood. Therapy can help to heal the pain that these experiences have caused, and help you free yourself from repetitive patterns rooted in these experiences (e.g., repeatedly choosing “unhealthy” relationships) I graduated with my PhD in clinical psychology from the APA-accredited clinical psychology program at the University of North Texas, and completed the APA-accredited clinical psychology internship program at the Institute of Living (IOL) in Hartford, Connecticut. At the IOL, part of my primary clinical responsibilities included co-facilitating daily inpatient and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) psychotherapy groups, in addition to completing psychological testing and providing individual psychotherapy services. My time at the IOL offered me unique and intensive training in psychodynamic theory and technique, which still strongly influences my clinical work to this day. After completing internship, I completed postdoctoral training in the psychiatry department at the University of Minnesota, where I received specialized training in the assessment and treatment of psychosis, personality issues, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and severe depression. Prior to my internship, my clinical training in the Yale School of Medicine and at the Yale New Haven Hospital Intensive Outpatient Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program provided me with extensive psychotherapy training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. While at the Yale School of Medicine, I also received unique training in mindfulness-based interventions, which also strongly influences my approach to treatment. The point in sharing all of this is that I have lived in many places, been exposed to many different types of training and experiences, and have a deep passion for learning and helping people. I believe that my training and skills within the realms of individual therapy, group therapy, and psychological testing helps me understand and connect with clients at a deep and profound level.

Hey--I'm Julie. I offer therapy that focuses on what matters to you and making changes that matter to you. Whether you're a queer or trans person fighting to be seen & heard on your terms, or in a relationship hijacked by conflict & pain, or your struggling to keep up with *all the things*, I can help. My specialty is asking questions that open pathways to your preferred tomorrow. I don't do lengthy and intrusive "intakes." I'm ready for the conversation you want to have. I'm also a professor--I teach at the University of Minnesota in the Youth Studies program. I know how sucky & stressful it is to juggle school w/other responsibilities. I know that some of you may be: precariously housed; living with food insecurity; facing the violence of racism, homo-and transphobia, white nationalist threats, sexism, and other oppressive systems; and/or squeaking by on poverty wages. That's all stuff that f*cks with you and we can find ways together to stand up and reclaim your life. Read more at my website, www.2stories.com, or give me a call/shoot me an email and I'll be happy to answer your questions about meeting together. In solidarity, Julie
