Are your emotions getting the best of you — influencing behaviors that impact your relationships, career, or sense of self? Are worry thoughts or mood shifts becoming harder to manage? Building a life is difficult when strong emotions sweep you away. They can pull you from your values, your goals, and even your identity. Emotion regulation isn’t about getting rid of feelings — it’s about learning how to ride the wave without letting it carry you off course. I’m a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician — the gold standard for DBT providers. I specialize in emotion dysregulation and use evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. I offer adherent DBT individual therapy and DBT skills training in both a group and 1:1 format. Navigating the decision to pursue therapy, whether for yourself or a loved one, is a step in the right direction. If you’re ready, reach out to schedule a free initial 15-minute consultation. On our call, we’ll discuss goals and what our work together could look like.

Perhaps you’re struggling with relationship tensions, feeling stagnant in studies or find yourself just more generally in a rut. As a mental health counselor, I work with adolescents and young adults as they move through life's transitions, helping them manage anxiety and depression triggers, process the changes they’re experiencing, and find healthier ways to understand and manage their emotions. I’m passionate about helping patients build confidence and self-esteem along the way. Reliability, respect, and trust guide how I show up as a supportive and trustworthy clinician. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and learn how to manage the challenges you may face along the way. I specialize in using CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to build coping skills and strategies for managing the stressors that come with different stages of life, along with Motivational Interviewing, or MI, to help you find what motivates you and use that motivation to make changes in your life. This approach is collaborative, empathetic, and pragmatic, and tailored to your unique story. Creating a strong therapeutic alliance is also central to how I work, because I believe it can be key to successfully attaining goals in therapy. It matters to me that patients feel safe and free of judgment, and that is what I hope to provide as your clinician. Together, we can build a calm and supportive environment where you feel comfortable working toward your goals. My path to becoming a therapist began with my own journey through therapy, experiencing its effects and the support that therapy can provide to those who are engaged in it. I wanted to offer that same support and comfort to others, creating a safe and empathetic environment where patients could work toward their goals. This experience deepened my commitment to providing consistent, supportive, warm, and welcoming care. Carrying that experience forward, I bring the idea that each person and each session hold its own story. In our sessions, I hope to learn your story and support you in reviewing your previous chapters while creating a plan to help you write the next one. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, whether we're headed to the beach, a concert, or a new restaurant — I'm always up for a new adventure. Sporting events are another favorite, especially cheering on women's sports and the PWHL. On calmer days, you'll find me watching movies of all kinds, reading books, or spending time with my dog.

College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.

Therapy is a unique experience and I believe that we as humans are most balanced when we feel safe and understood, non-judgmentally. As a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish), I strive to ensure that clients are provided the space to effectively express themselves in a way that makes sense to them. I have years of experience working with college students like you who may be feeling overwhelmed with the load of academics, expectations, and also trying to maintain a social life and practice self-care. Sometimes, just having a neutral person to talk to is all you need. My approach to therapy is prioritizing your needs and personalizing sessions to reflect that. Specifically, the therapeutic styles that I utilize are Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I believe that therapy is done at your pace. Ultimately, therapy is about recognizing that your mental health matters (just as much as physical health) and valuing the process to get there.

Hi, I'm Lisa Grine, MSN, APN, PMHNP-BC Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for College Students What Students Say About Me "Great listener, knowledgeable, and kind-hearted." Years of Experience 10 years+ My Approach I'm both warm and direct—able to match whatever you need in that moment. Sometimes that means sitting with you quietly and listening. Other times it means telling you what I see, even when it's hard to hear. Our sessions are structured conversations, not free-flowing chats. I believe that clarity helps. What I Work With Most • Anxiety, mood concerns,(mental health during prenatal, during pregnancy, and postpartum needs), and depression to name a few • High-achieving students experiencing burnout and life transitions • Young adults-both undergrad and graduate students How I Work Often, college students feel forced to choose between success and wellbeing — but together, we can find a way to balance both! I take a holistic approach to care, which means looking at the whole person, not just symptoms. And let's be honest, it's no surprise that college life can throw our health off track — skipping fresh air, surviving on less-than-ideal food, and running on questionable amounts of sleep are basically a rite of passage. Integrative and Holistic care also means honoring your religious beliefs, ethics, morals, and value systems, because those things genuinely shape who you are. I offer medications when clinically appropriate, but my focus goes far beyond that. Having worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, I understand the intensity of acute care as well as the importance of building sustainable, everyday coping strategies that actually fit your life. Who I'm Best Suited For I tend to connect well with women, men, and provide mental health support for women who are pregnant, peri/postpartum. I am strictly telehealth and so if someone needs a stimulant or controlled substance I can recommend providers who are in person or hybrid to match those needs based on current laws and restrictions. I'm upfront about this because I believe matching matters. If you are in any acute danger please seek emergency care first as this practice is outpatient. If you're looking for a provider who shares certain values or experiences, that can make a difference in how comfortable you feel.

You're smart. You've always figured things out. So why does it feel like your emotions are the one thing you can't get a handle on? Maybe you've got the grades, the group chat, the schedule packed with things you're "supposed" to want... and still find yourself lying in bed at 2am wondering why everything feels so heavy. That's actually exactly the kind of thing I work on with you in therapy. I'm Mallory Grimste, LCSW, a therapist based in Branford, CT who specializes in working with teens, college students, and young adults who are emotionally overwhelmed and high-achieving at the same time. (Yes, both. It's more common than you think.) I use a DBT-informed approach, which basically means I teach real, practical strategies- the kind you can actually use when you're about to crash out before a big exam or spiraling after a hard conversation. We can work on anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, and navigating relationships — including the one you have with yourself. My clients don't just feel better in session. They leave treatment feeling more confident in who they are, more capable of handling the hard stuff, and genuinely proud of how far they've come. I offer telehealth sessions in Connecticut and New York, and in-person sessions in Branford, CT. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to connect. 👉 Learn more and apply to work together: mallorygrimste.com/counseling-services
