Hello, I’m Alex, a counselor and art therapist in the Wheat Ridge area! I offer virtual and in-person, and I specialize in OCD, anxiety, women’s issues, grief/loss, and alternative/ENM/CNM relationships. I serve ages 16+ and am particularly passionate about working with LGBTQ+ folks. I believe that each person holds the answers to their questions, but I can serve as a tool in helping you define and actualize your values. Let's partner up to build your journey of self-discovery and understanding, and create narratives that grow your ability to love yourself and your life. I have an upfront and honest approach to therapy, where our sessions look like a conversation of getting us closer to the truth about YOU. I'm also passionate about teaching evidence based skills and tools to work into your daily life. The more we understand what’s going on, the more equipped you are to make choices about what you want and who you want to become!

We believe that everyone is inherently driven to heal and become the fullest version of themselves. By providing children, adolescents and young adults with support and unconditional acceptance, we allow them to become the leaders of their own healing journey. Play therapy for adults?! It may sound quirky, but the essential values of play therapy (connection, emotional expression, facing your challenges with unconditional support) lend themselves beautifully to anyone’s healing process, no matter your age. Young adulthood is a time of tremendous change and transition, but that doesn’t mean you have to sort through all of those challenges on your own. Therapeutic support can be immensely helpful as you really discover who you are, what you want, and how you want to be in the world. If you are interested in learning more about our services, for you or for your child, please feel free to reach out to us! We are happy to offer you a free 30-min consultation to answer any questions you may have.

Welcome to Greever Counseling! It has always been a deep conviction of ours that each and every person has immense value, meaning, and potential. Sometimes, life has a way of beating us down, until we no longer can see this within ourselves. Sometimes, we have been so hurt that we hide, avoid, lose hope, or give up…Sometimes, we run to coping patterns that ultimately leave us even more disconnected and isolated from ourselves and others. It is within this space where we want to welcome you. You don’t have to be perfect here. Often, it is within the context of brokenness where beauty and growth can occur. We take this work as a sacred opportunity to meet you, exactly as you are, and to help you find your path towards freedom and healing. It’s not an easy journey, but it is so worth it. Greever Counseling specializes in PTSD (trauma), Anxiety, Sex or Porn Addiction, Intimacy Issues, Couples Work, and Men’s Issues. If you are a psychological theory nerd (as we are), we operate from an integrative viewpoint which includes Relational Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Neurobiology, as well as processing tools within Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and Mindfulness. Ultimately, we believe that the starting point for healing is found within the context of a deeply authentic and relational encounter with another.

I am originally from California, but have called Colorado (Denver) my home for the last thirteen years. While I do miss the ocean, I love being in the mountains and all they have to offer. When I am not working, I am often playing in my garden, doing something in the kitchen, spending time with friends and family, or traveling. I am the same person during session as I am outside of session; laid back, a little goofy, genuinely curious about others’ lives, and compassionate. I use she/her pronouns. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) and am licensed to see clients in Colorado, Indiana, Florida and Nevada. I have been practicing therapy since 2013 and truly enjoy working with my clients. I love learning about how trauma and stress can impact our minds, bodies and nervous systems and the ways we can heal and start to feel better. I am a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist as well as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). I often use a mixture of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), attachment, parts focused, and mindfulness techniques to help clients begin to unpack stressful or traumatic events and begin to integrate a sense of healing back into their minds and bodies. These techniques can be helpful for clients struggling with anxiety and depression symptoms, who have experienced one or more traumatic events, substance use, emotion regulation, or uncomfortable body sensations.

I work with you to not just understand what's going on, but also to develop tools to help. Tools to stop panic attacks, tools to manage depression, tools to get organized and figure out what you want in life. We work together to see what works reliably for you. In addition to talking things through, in session and between sessions sometimes you might be writing, sometimes trying a challenging behavior change, sometimes engaging in mindfulness, and sometimes using visualizations. My aim is for you to feel better, and to know what to do to keep feeling better or help yourself if problems resurface. And I try to work efficiently with you, so you are back to your life (and ending therapy) as soon as makes sense for you. Give me a call to set up an initial (free) conversation, at 303-870-9195.

The transition from high school to whatever lies beyond it for you can be challenging. Suddenly, the whole world is in front of you and there is no set "map" for what is next. You can choose college, or a career. You can stay in your home town or move far away. You have increased opportunities to explore your own identity, make choices about romantic partnerships, and consider whether you'd like to start your own family some day. Your friends' lives are changing too; some will remain in your life and you'll grow apart from others. Your relationship with your family is also changing-- both in ways that feel helpful and ways that feel hard or sad. There are so many new decisions to make, people to meet, places to explore. For some young adults, these changes feel exciting. Others feel overwhelmed and even paralyzed, frozen, by all of these changes at once. Often, there are a mix of emotions present. As we adjust to the demands of a new job or a difficult college class, or living away from our families for the first time, we may notice increased stress or big emotions that feel difficult to manage. Times of transition can also stir up past wounds such as memories of difficult or traumatic events or tense relationships with loved ones. We may find ourselves experiencing increased symptoms of worry, intense sadness, decreased motivation, conflict with other people, or intrusive thoughts and memories that affect our ability to sleep or concentrate. Some of us may try to cope by using alcohol or other substances, and we may start to wonder if this is really as helpful as we once thought it was. Young adulthood can be so many things, both wonderful and challenging. Sometimes, therapy can be a helpful way to sort it all out or heal from difficult events that continue to make daily life difficult. I enjoy working with young adults as they navigate this unique season of life, and would be honored to walk alongside you in this work. I believe you are incredibly resilient, meaning you are capable of getting through hard things. My approach is to work as a team with you to identify the strengths you already have, discuss your goals, and determine which strategies might be most helpful to help you reach those goals. I also understand the importance of finding the right match when you are looking for a therapist. Feel free to visit my website to schedule a free 15 minute consultation and we can chat to see if we are a good fit. I accept multiple insurance plans, and can offer both in-person and telehealth therapy. www.quietudetherapy.com

My goal is to work collaboratively with you to create a supportive space where you can explore your goals, build resilience, and develop strategies to manage all of life’s challenges while living more authentically. You deserve an empathetic, understanding, and empowering partner in care. Contact me today to start your healing journey with a therapist focused on transforming your mental health. I believe in supporting you with compassion and respect for your autonomy, which helps me be a collaborative and understanding partner in care. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals, build resilience, and create meaningful change through person-centered, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other tailored therapeutic approaches. As a former NCAA Division I athlete, I offer a unique perspective in supporting individuals, including athletes navigating both mental health and performance-related challenges. This perspective was built upon my own experience in seeking help for challenges as a college athlete, including anxiety and burnout after an injury, one that deepened my commitment to providing the unconditional, nonjudgmental care everyone deserves. In my practice now, I remain dedicated to bringing warmth, kindness, and understanding to each session, creating a space where you can explore and grow at your own pace. Staying active is important for the mind, body, and soul, whether I’m in or out of the office. When I’m not working, you’ll most often find me out on a run, spending time outdoors, exploring new places, and searching for the perfect cup of coffee.

I believe that healing involves the mind, body and soul. I focus primarily on relational methods, as I believe that the therapeutic bond is a place to practice and explore new ways of connecting, being vulnerable, feeling emotions, receiving care, and building self-awareness. My main methods of therapy are Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM), both of which focus on using relationship to bring out each individual’s self-righting tendencies and heal past wounds.. I also am certified in EMDR and the DIR/Floortime developmental play therapy model. I have training in various parenting and family therapy methods, including Circle of Security and Developmental Dyadic Psychotherapy. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish from Miami University in Ohio, an MBA from Northwestern University in Evanston, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. My Colorado license is #9925261. I am lucky to be married to a wonderful husband and have three boys, all beginning their journey into adulthood. I love to hike, read, and sit by the firepit with friends and family.
