Life can be difficult. With the right tools and some effort, it does not have to be. My hope is to help you with your goals. Whether that is to feel better (less depressed, anxious or angry), improve your relationships (with a spouse, parent, child, etc.), change your behaviors (substance use, self harm, avoidance), or anything else that is important to you, I'd love the opportunity to work with you. I enjoy working with a many different presenting problems. My passions include working with teens/adults, men's issues (especially navigating work and/or family life), post-partum Dads, athletes and substance use/co-occurring disorders. Therapy isn't one-size fits all. I utilize many forms of therapy depending on what my client may need. These typically include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused therapy and motivational interviewing. Each client is unique and I find it important to adjust treatment strategies to the needs of each client. Should you allow me to be a help to you, you can always expect empathy and compassion. But you can also expect me to be direct, push you to challenge your perspective, and inject a bit of humor into the therapy process. I welcome you to reach out if you think I could be the right fit for you.

Hi, my name is Karla Gossens. I’m a therapist who understands that starting therapy can hard. I've worked with individuals for many years to explore the possibilities of change in a safe and open environment. From anxiety and depression to complex trauma, I'm happy to work with you to better understand what is going on and how to get back to your most natural self. Through the years, I've had experience working with many young adults and college students. I specialize in complex trauma and adult attachment, but also offer therapy for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, general stress, life transitions, and religious wounds. I understand that starting counseling can be an awkward and anxious thing, which is why I focus on a low pressure introduction and virtual therapy that allows you to stay in the environment that is most comfortable to you. Please feel free to reach out to me, I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Note: My income based sliding scale fee ranges from $60-$150 for on going sessions. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

There comes a time when we all need support in remembering who we are. So many of us have learned to shrink, perform, or lose ourselves in order to belong. This can leave us feeling disconnected, lonely, overwhelmed, or unsure of who we are beneath the roles we've learned to carry. You may be thoughtful, capable, deeply feeling, and exhausted from carrying so much. Many of the individuals I work with are highly sensitive, often therapists, healers, helpers, and cycle-breakers, longing for deeper authenticity, secure attachment, meaningful relationships, self-trust, and a more wholehearted connection with themselves and their lives. My approach to therapy is warm, relational, holistic, and depth-oriented. Together we explore patterns, wounds, relationships, and nervous system responses keeping you stuck while helping you reconnect with your authentic self. I integrate attachment-based therapy, mindfulness, parts work, and somatic awareness to support healing and healthier relationships. Healing often begins when we no longer feel the need to hide who we are in order to feel loved, accepted, or safe. Therapy can become a space to slow down, breathe, reconnect with yourself, and begin creating change from the inside out. You do not have to navigate everything alone. I would be honored to walk alongside you in the process.

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you are trying to balance school, work, relationships, family expectations, or figuring out what is next. You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can show up as you are and talk openly about what's on your mind. Together, we'll work on understanding what you are going through, managing stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions, and building practical skills to help you feel more confident and grounded. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, identity, and major life changes like college, starting a career, or simply learning how to navigate adulthood. Whether you are considering therapy for the first time or coming back after a break, my goal is to make the experience feel welcoming, collaborative, and helpful. I currently offer virtual therapy sessions for Michigan residents.

I've learned over my years in practice that every person carries a deep inner resilience and an ability to heal. Sometimes, they just need a little support in uncovering it. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've been carrying the weight of anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, identity questions, or overwhelming emotions for a long time. You don't have to navigate those challenges alone. I work with young adults who are ready to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, and create lasting change. Whether you're navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, personality concerns, life transitions, or questions surrounding identity, therapy can provide both practical tools and a space to process what you've been through. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each person. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while recognizing that every person's experiences and goals are unique.

When therapy becomes a reality A situation arises in one’s life that alters our once innocent perspective of our surroundings. Answers are searched through the experience of others when ultimately the truth lies within our own experiences. These two phrases tend to resonate with individuals who experience trauma, anxiety, depression, overall dysregulation within their environment. Each person’s experience is unique as well as the journey to repairing the damage left behind. I believe therapy can be used to create a personable, yet the potentially uncomfortable path to reality and self-truth. Without exposing or facing the wounds, the trauma response can remain to stagnate or continue to spread internally and externally. In which developing the vicious cycle of chaos within, generationally, and/or onto others our surroundings. Hi there! I am a mental health therapist (LMSW) who offers virtual appointments only, with some flexibility for weekday and/or weekend scheduling. I have limited capacity to accommodate emergency sessions. I currently work with adult individuals only. I am an unambiguously Black, pansexual, cis-presenting, able bodied femme who understands and emphasizes the importance of intersectionality within mental health. Born and raised in Detroit, I have a thorough understanding of the environmental obstacles marginalized folx are challenged with when exploring the state of their mental health. I uphold the belief that exploration and management of mental health is a life-long journey, and I take pride in being able to assist on this journey. I have an eclectic approach to mental health, including the promotion of methods for holistic health. My areas of focus include creating safe spaces for Black folx, POC, non-monogamous folx, and those in the LGBTQIA2SP+ communities. I provide talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral informed therapy (DBT-informed), motivational interviewing (MI), and solution-focused therapy models. While these are my current areas of comfort, I am open to exploring additional modalities that may be of interest to clients. Therapy is a collaborative space, and I treat it as such. Other areas of focus include treatments for anxiety, depression, fat acceptance/liberation, intersectional stigmas, ableism, ageism, sexism, womanism, mindfulness, sexual liberation, sexual health, communication skills, academics, life skills, religious trauma, and the importance of Black femmes putting their cape down and resting. I look forward to being part of your healing process.
