Navigating college life can be challenging, especially when you’re balancing academics, relationships, and personal growth. I’m Alex Conway, a licensed mental health counselor with a passion for helping college students like you thrive. My private practice focuses on positive psychology, mindfulness, and LGBTQ+ issues, providing a supportive space where you can explore your strengths, build resilience, and embrace your authentic self. Why choose me? With a background in positive psychology, I offer practical tools to boost your well-being and empower you to create a joyful, meaningful life. Whether you’re dealing with stress, identity questions, or just need someone to talk to, I’m here to help you navigate your journey with compassion and understanding.
College can be one of the most exciting times in your life: but it can also bring a lot of pressure. Between classes, deadlines, part time jobs, and planning for the future, it is easy to feel overwhelmed. If you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trouble concentrating, mood swings, or just not feeling like yourself, you are not alone—and you don’t have to push through it without support. I’m a provider with extensive experience treating adults 18+ across a wide range of mental health conditions. Over the years, I’ve worked in some of New York City’s leading hospitals, including Mount Sinai’s Main Campus, Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Queens Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and Bronx Lebanon Hospital. I’ve provided care in emergency psychiatric settings (CPEP), inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and through telepsychiatry—giving me a deep understanding of both urgent and long-term mental health needs. My current focus is medication management, tailored specifically to your unique symptoms and goals. Whether you’re struggling with focus, managing your mood, dealing with panic attacks, or just trying to function under the weight of constant stress, I’ll work with you to find a treatment plan that fits—and actually helps. To make care more accessible, I offer flexible evening and weekend appointments, so your mental health doesn’t have to take a back seat to everything else on your plate. With a South Asian background and fluency in Urdu/Hindi, I deeply understand the cultural stigma and access challenges many patients face. This insight informs my compassionate, individualized, evidence-based approach, especially for complex cases.
I work with college students, young adults, and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and the stress that can come with school, relationships, identity, and uncertainty about the future. I’m especially passionate about supporting young adults through the often-overwhelming transition from college to the “real world” — whether that means coping with job-search stress, navigating career pressure, adjusting to new responsibilities, or trying to make sense of who you are outside of school. I also help clients process loss of identity during major life changes, such as graduating, stepping away from athletics, changing roles, or leaving behind a version of themselves that once felt familiar. I also specialize in supporting expats and individuals living abroad who may be facing loneliness, culture adjustment, and the emotional complexity of feeling caught between worlds. My approach to therapy is holistic, collaborative, and personalized. I draw from mindfulness and wellness-based strategies when helpful, and I tailor the work to each client’s goals, needs, and lived experiences. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, burnt out, or simply unsure of what’s next, I strive to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.
I believe that therapy is a space to tell your unique story, where your lived experience will be received, honored, and validated without judgment. By diving into that story together, I can help guide you in understanding yourself and charting a course for future growth. As we walk this path together, we will work toward self-acceptance, empowerment, and joy. I support clients through a variety of challenges, such as exploring identity, navigating transitions, strengthening relationships, processing trauma, and coping with stress. As a queer, gender non-binary therapist, I am particularly passionate about providing sexuality- and gender-affirming therapy to queer and trans clients of all ages. I prioritize queer joy and gender euphoria in the therapeutic space, and strive to create a safe haven for clients to explore their identities beyond heteronormative sexuality and binary gender. My therapeutic approach is tailored to the individual client, and incorporates a variety of techniques and approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and anti-oppressive practice. My therapeutic style is goal-oriented and client-centered, and I prioritize collaboratively constructing a set of goals to bring intentionality to my work with clients. I strive to bring warmth, empathy, and patience to my work, and I encourage clients to identify and leverage their unique strengths and capabilities. My practice is informed by queer theory and critical race theory, and I strive to help clients explore how their lives have been influenced by social structures of oppression and inequality. In my free time, I love spending quality time with family and friends and finding new favorite spots to eat in my neighborhood. On the weekends, you can find me exploring Astoria Park and fawning over every dog I meet.

Navigating life's challenges can be difficult and overwhelming. If you are struggling with anxiety/stress, depression, self esteem, dating/relationships or life transitions, together, we will explore healthy, attainable changes to improve the quality of your life and relationships. I aim to help you to gain insight, self-acceptance, and learn new strategies to help you to live an empowered life. Therapy can be short-term and focused on immediate, practical solutions or long-term and focused on going deeper. When personal exploration is encouraged and supported, we decide who we are and how we want to live our lives.
Therapy with me is about understanding who you are, where you come from, and honoring what’s alive in you. Our work together is a collaborative unfolding. With a creative, holistic approach, I open the space to move beyond surface problem-solving and into the heart of your story—where healing, growth, and expansion can take root. Think of therapy less as a straight line and more as a spiral: each turn bringing deeper insight, greater clarity, and new ways of being. Together, we’ll create a grounded, compassionate space where your wholeness is remembered and your complexity is celebrated.

Whether you're a parent navigating the challenges of raising children, a young adult finding your footing, or a family seeking stronger connections — there's a place for you here. Life has a way of pulling us in every direction — but healing often starts by turning inward. I bring both compassion and energy to every session, creating a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported. Whether you're navigating everyday stress or life's bigger challenges, I'm here to help you find your footing and reconnect with your own strength.
I practice what is called Person-Centered Therapy, meaning it is adapted to you and your needs. I work by the belief that true growth and change comes not just from techniques or plans, but from our relationships with each other. Using a Person-Centered approach, I look to help each person identify and use their own strengths, interests and existing supports to create the positive and healthy life for themselves that they envision. I incorporate professional and personal experiences and interests to create a relationship with clients that will foster trust and communication.
My empathic approach empowers clients to lead healthier lives. As we work together, I will focus on you and your unique needs. We will collaborate to set goals that will help you move forward in your life. Starting with your existing strengths, we will then develop the tools needed to meet those goals. My therapeutic work is informed by my years of supporting people struggling with substance use, domestic violence, and anger management. I also enjoy working with immigrants and first-generation Americans as they navigate being part of two unique and sometimes conflicting cultures. Utilizing culturally informed CBT, along with DBT tools, I am passionate about helping individuals develop more meaningful relationships.
I provide a personalized, person-centered approach to therapy that encourages clients to take an active role in their treatment. Whether you are feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or need some extra support while you make a change, I am here to provide a supportive space to help you reach your full potential. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with me? Together we can develop an awareness of the patterns causing hindrances in your life, gain a deeper understanding of those underlying issues, make connections to those patterns, and change the way you respond to challenges in your life.
I specialize in working with high-functioning adult trauma survivors navigating life transitions, relationship dynamics, marriage, and family challenges. Using CBT, narrative therapy, and psychodynamic approaches, I help patients process trauma, reconstruct meaning, address current relational patterns, and explore mental health concerns within the context of their lived experiences. The therapeutic relationship I build with patients can help them reclaim their stories, understand relationship patterns, build stronger connections, and move through life with more clarity and resilience. I believe therapy works best when it's real and relational. I'm present, authentic, and genuinely interested in understanding you and your story. My hope for you is that you feel safe and comfortable in sharing the most intimate details of your life with me as a mental health professional, but also as a fellow human being. I take a humanistic approach in my work, always keeping in mind that patients who sit before me in sessions are so much more than a diagnosis or notes on a page. I want you to know that you can come exactly as you are and be accepted.
I work best with students who feel overwhelmed on the inside even if they look “fine” on the outside. Many of my clients deal with anxiety, OCD, stress, or big life adjustments like starting college, managing classes, or navigating relationship difficulties. If you’re feeling stuck, burnt out, or unsure how to handle everything on your plate, you’ll likely feel comfortable with me. I offer a warm, straightforward space to slow down, understand what’s going on, and build skills that make life feel more manageable.
Great to meet you! I’m honored to introduce myself as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over eight years of experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and life challenges. I am also a Certified Grief Educator and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and much of my work focuses on helping people navigate grief, trauma, life transitions, and personal growth. My goal is to provide a supportive and compassionate space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered. I believe that healing happens when people feel safe to explore their experiences and discover their strengths. My practice covers many issues, from depression and anxiety to trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, Autism, emotional dysregulation, workplace challenges, life and career transitions, relationship difficulties, and substance abuse. Additionally, I am here to support your journey of self-discovery, assisting you in your search for identity and purpose. My clients often describe me as compassionate, insightful, warm, and caring. These qualities are at the heart of my therapeutic approach. I am dedicated to creating a safe and empathetic space where you can express your concerns, explore your thoughts and emotions, and work towards solutions.
I'm fluent in Mandarin and English, I have worked with many international students who struggle with cultural adjustment, immigration status, interpersonal relationship and other challenges in college life. I was an international student and I knew how challenging it could be to study abroad. I would like to be a good listener and care for students' mental health. In terms of my approaches, I help students use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to view their life in a more comprehensive way by analyzing their automatic thoughts. I also guide them to be aware of body sensation and be able to calm through mindfulness practice (a technique from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
You don't have to figure it all out on your own! Students I work with are empathic and intelligent and are feeling pain about their personal lives and the world at large. They have difficulty asking for help as they are often the person others turn to for assistance. Distress can show up as failing classes, procrastination, insomnia, sadness, lack of focus, irritability, anxiety and feelings of hopelessness about the future. In our work together, we will identify sources of distress, resolve conflicts that are holding you stuck, and learn, practice and integrate coping strategies. We will tap into inner resources--including intuition, humor, beauty and resilience--to access healing and joy. Our work will enable you to become more grounded, self-aware, confident, and self-directed. I studied English and Environmental Studies at SUNY Albany and Williams College. I received my Masters in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University and my Masters in Social Work from New York University. My professional experience includes over 15 years working in academia, including serving as the director of a university women's and gender resource center, adjunct professor and academic advisor, in addition to my work as a psychotherapist. I am a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America and am a climate-aware and trauma-informed therapist. Many of my current clients are dealing with trauma and social anxiety. They often feel isolated and struggle with initiating and building healthy connections and friendships with others. Therapy can help you uncover choices and social skills you may not even be able to imagine now. My studies in creative arts therapies, mythology, Tarot, dreams and archetypes help you see your life stories with fresh perspective and flexibility. Students who work best with me approach therapy as partnering with a warm, compassionate, knowledgeable guide who can help them access intuitive, academic, physical and practical resources. We weave together a unique net of strategies that you can tap into as needed for coping with obstacles and stressors in your life.
