Are you exploring life for the first time as a young adult, wondering “who am I?” Are you feeling stuck or frustrated with trying to make meaning of your past? If so, you’re in the right place. As a therapist, Courtney believes in creating a non-judgmental, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. Her holistic approach tailor’s treatment plans to each client’s unique needs, guiding them towards healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of wholeness. Courtney recognizes the influence of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and culture on our life journeys, and she validates the unique experience of clients from diverse backgrounds and identities. Courtney embraces an integrative approach to treatment, drawing on Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Internal Family System Theory (IFS), and Person-Centered approaches. She is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore their inner child, heal from past hurts, and discover their identity while experiencing difficult life transitions. Courtney helps guide clients in understanding and addressing the impact of traumatic experiences on thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; fostering compassion and self-acceptance; and empowering them with coping skills and strategies. Courtney graduated with her Master’s degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University, and received a specialization in Trauma Across the Lifespan. Courtney also holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology. Courtney has experience working with adolescents and young adults who are experiencing challenges related to anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship conflict, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, and identity development. She is especially passionate about working with individuals ages 18-35 who are discovering who they are, and those interested in unpacking the impact of past hurt on their relationship with themselves and others.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, and at times, we all need a bit of support to get there. I am here to provide that support, tailored to meet your individual needs. Therapy can be a transformative process, offering a wide range of possibilities for growth and healing. I believe that every person is unique, and as such, therapy should never be a "one size fits all" approach. Whether you are new to therapy and seeking to manage daily stresses, looking to foster personal growth, or in need of healing, we will work collaboratively to ensure that therapy is right for you. I take great pride in offering a safe space and a compassionate ear to those open to enlightenment and change. I believe that everyone possesses the inner strength to grow, though sometimes these strengths may be hidden. Through a person-centered and compassionate lens, we will work together to uncover your strengths and cultivate self-compassion to help you achieve your goals. In addition to traditional therapy, I also offer Art Therapy as an alternative form of expression, providing comfort and a unique way to explore your inner self. If you are ready to embark on a journey of personal growth or are simply curious about where to begin, I would be honored to accompany you. Change is not always easy, but when you are ready, you will find a safe space here and a committed partner ready to support you on your path toward healing and growth.

You may trust that I will be authentic and genuine with you from the beginning as this is an important aspect of therapy. For many folks, transitioning to college life feels difficult enough. But for those who are holding themselves together after trauma, struggling with chronic illness and mental health, or those who are first-generation students, the hurdles to being successful can feel insurmountable. As a therapist, I specialize in working with clients who identify as BIPOC, neurodiverse, or who are navigating chronic health conditions. My goal is to help clients recover from PTSD, set and maintain healthy boundaries, and navigate relationships in ways that set them free from people-pleasing. I have worked extensively with survivors of sexual assault and other forms of abuse. I work for Spring Forest Counseling, a group therapy practice located in Okemos, where I see clients in-person and virtually. I am trained in EMDR for PTSD, and also utilize IFS/parts work, mindfulness, and exposure therapy when relevant. My approach is direct, empowerment-based, and educational.

In my experience working with people from different countries, I’ve seen the importance of providing a safe space where you can be yourself, feel understood and accepted regardless of your culture, religion, race, gender identity, sexual preference, or background. A good therapeutic relationship and a common comprehension of what led you to start therapy, will allow us to guide the therapy process, integrate techniques from different therapies, and give you a better grasp of how to achieve your goals. I’m Bilingual in English and Spanish, I have a master’s degree in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and an Advanced Certification in Schema Therapy. I draw from an integrative psychotherapy orientation, that allows the integration of other evidence-based therapies/techniques.
